Cairo

Plan: We arrive at noon, and settle in... I have so many things I want to do in Cairo, I will have to wait until we are actually there: the Museum, the City of the Dead, & Khan al-Khalili Market... Hotel: The Pyramid View Hotel Well, here we are in Cairo and I am actually able to see th pyramids as I type this. I am laying on our bed at our first hotel which looks straight out our sliding door. Directly above the railing are the pyramids in the not so far distance. We are less than two ho...

Day 2 - Cairo

16.10 (GMT +2) - Just laid down on my fur lined bed after what can only be described as an exhausting day. We were up early for breakfast after only a few hours sleep (we did not arrive at our hotel until 04.00 local time). Everything went smoothly on our flight and arrival but our taxi journey to the hotel was quite interesting. I know it was early but there just seemed to be no rules of the road. This proved to be just a taster though as we set out on our first taxi journey of the day to th...

Day 3 - The Pyramids & Egyptian Museum

21.40 - Another long and tiring day today. We were up early for breakfast and the start of our tour. As our Pyramid View Hotel is already in Giza, the drive to the pyramids themselves was relatively short. Unfortunately the day began very hazy and we were unable to see the pyramids at first, even from our hotel window. Anyway, there was nothing we could do so we had to just get on with it. We met our leader for the day, Ahmed, who talked us through some of the history of the pyramids and Egyp...

Day 1 - 6 Sep 2008

Set off for Heathrow after a stressy evening and sleepless night, all because I had left everything until the last minute. Trouble is, I tend to get a bit blasé now where travelling preparations are concerned. Gone are the days when I planned everything with military precision. Was still doing laundry at 11pm last night, of things I wanted to take and then couldn't find my travel insurance docs. Shortly after midnight I found them, so downed a very large liquer as way of celebration, and hit ...

Arriving into Cairo

After a great experience of being upgraded to First Class, we arrived in Cairo at 2.30am walked off the plane onto the tarmac and onto the bus for a quick ride to the terminal where Mum and I were meet by GoBus representative who was on our side of customs he help us get our Visa's which cost us 10 pound each and then said he would meet us on the other side for baggage. Funny cause Mum and I a little tired but we already could see that Money talks in Egypt. We got our Bags and got into a smal...

Day 2 - Cairo (pyramids & sphinx)

Breakfast. A big day out, kicking off at the Egyptian Museum, to see the treasures of King Tutankhamen before heading to the awesome pyramids and lion headed Sphinx of Giza. As sole survivors from the ancient wonders of the world, the pyramids certainly live up to the hype!

Creepy phone calls and another new hotel

Dinner with Dan, Michelle and Ali was great, we went to their hotel - Le Meridien which was very nice and it was nice to see them again before we all split up. Ali is very nice and got along well with Dan and Michelle and he was very patient as we walked down a very long road to find their hotel which I was told should take 10mins to walk and ended up being a 10min taxi ride when we were getting later and later. I checked out of the Europa on Wednesday and it wasn't a minute too soon! After q...
