The next stop on our schedule was Fort St. John, but since the weekend was coming up we decided to drive part of the way and to stop for the weekend in Jasper. Jasper is a community within Jasper National Park and, as such, is surrounded in every direction by wilderness and recreation opportunities. The town itself is great to explore too. After we dropped our gear at the hotel we went into Jasper to see if we could find some food. We saw a sign advertising '$5 burger and fries' and figured ...

... that Shelley took us to see a waterfall that she isn't supposed to take us to - there isn't a proper trail. However, it was a great waterfall; we got right up to where the water comes straight out of the rock.

After that we went to the Athabasca Glacier. The Athabasca Glacier is part of the Columbia Icefield which is the largest icefield south of the Arctic Circle, three times the size of Greater ...
Jasper, Alberta, Canada gonetravellin... was spent driving down the Ice fields Parkway under clear blues skies taking in the incredible scenery from Jasper down to Banff – what an amazing experience which was nearly spoilt when we reached our intended RV park for the next 3 nights to find at 8 o’clock that we had been booked into the wrong RV Park an hour away back north. Another cock up I’m afraid to say from our agents (I wonder what treat we will get in return for this one!!).
Jasper, Alberta, Canada prieststrip... bikes up a few hills! So it took us about two hours to get to Patricia lake where we took a little dip in our clothes and then rode on to Pyramid lake for another dip. We thought the road might be a bit quicker on the way back so gave that a go - took like 10 mins to get back to town and all downhill cruising!! So yeah that was about it - went to a pizza place for dinner - pretty hungry and sore after that ride!
Jasper, Alberta, Canada bobstacytripsOn Day 2, we drove south towards Athabasca Falls, then headed up a rocky, unpaved road to hike the Geraldine Lakes trail. We made it past the first lake and midway towards the second, finally turning around at a massive rockpile. Afterwards we went into Jasper for a dinner of Japanese food. Details in the photos!
Jasper, Alberta, Canada wonderer... townsite around midday, ate lunch in town, got groceries, checked in at the HI hostel, and then went for a short warm-up hike, Valley of the Five Lakes. Afterwards we went back to the hostel to roast hot dogs, but got rained out before I had time for any marshmallows. Gah. The main HI hostel in Jasper isn't the nicest. It has huge, 30-bed dorms, as well as a few "family" rooms that get booked up very early. One of the girls in ...
Jasper, Alberta, Canada wonderer... are full so we spent the Wednesday and Thursday nights in a B&B type place (but without the breakfast!). On the Wednesday we went to the summit of a local mountain - Whistlers mountain. This involved a cable car to 2270M and then a walk up to the top at 2470M. The views from the top were really good and we went a bit further by walking along the peak. We also met a Marmot (a squirrel like creature but ...
Jasper, Alberta, Canada alexndean... I got about a quarter of the way through the tour and I couldnt go any further. I felt like I was going to melt away. lol. Anyway, I went back to the van and then the driver and the guide took me back to the local family and they fed me tea. My guide then took me to a local doctor to get a examination done. I had a pretty severe bacterial infection and a fever of 103. He prescribed me some meds and I was getting kind of scared cause I was on my last 300 pesos. Anyway, the whole ...
