Holy Lake or Cess Pool?

Some of the group were not so keen on the Bush Camps that are coming up in the next week and have proposed an alternate itinerary that involves longer drives and avoids the bush camps and provides an additional option to go to a vineyard instead of one of the caves. This was put to the group and the vast majority agreed, so it seems we will miss having to set camp along the roadside somewhere and getting a potential audience making toileting interesting. After multiple days of Indian cuisine ...

A Fort Fiesta in Rajastan - Part 2

There's a lot to be said for spontaneity when travelling. Pushkar was always a town I had skimmed past in the guide book, seeing as it's predominantly famous for a big stonking camel market that takes place there at the end of November. One day with the camels was already enough for me, thanks. But luckily I was convinced to give it a look and as it turns out, it was good advice. Left aligned photo tag: Set around a beautiful placid lake, ringed with temples Pushkar is one of India's holy tow...

Don't misunderstand me, we made a donation at every temple we visited, but this was enforced and could be intimidating if you weren't prepared. We did leave a donation but sorry parents I didn't feel his blessing was worth ...

On the road to Pushkar Mela

We took an ordinary bus from Bundi to Pushkar. I had my reservations about it, and had previously stated I preferred not to take these overcrowded, uncomfortable busses. They stop often, and regularly overload the bus with hot passengers. There is no air conditioning system. There were no private or delux buses available. We bought the ticket and got on anyway.

The bus loaded, and left on time. We hade our last look at the Bundi Palace and fortress as we left town. All the ...

... of shape. But the sunrise was real nice when we got up there, and the dogs and monkeys up there were pretty alright. On our way back down, dozens of elderly folks also made the climb as devout worshippers (impressive!!) We went on an overnight camel safari on Tuesday...for the whopping cost of $10 each, including dinner and breakfast. My camel's name was Jimmy, appropriately, and my tabla teacher sat on ...

No Curry, No Hurry - Still In Pushkar

... a Hanuman monkey god amulet. We also bought some silver amulets for Nikki, Guy and Alby as a farewell gift. The guy gave us a small silver Ganesha statue each for good luck and to clear obstacles. Friendly fact for the day, Indian males have the skinniest legs in the world. The younger boys have started the trend of wearing bell bottom trousers to make their matchstick pins appear bigger. I often think they will just snap over in the street and always wish to take them ...
