... enough to tick the box: `went to a nuddist beach´. . . I´m not mental . . and I do not care how much I care.
When we returned Tracy gave us some bad news about our cycling to come. Firstly, there was a heat wave due (last year it hit 57 degrees in land), there is a windy season, and we were about to cross the siera nevada (a massive mountain range). Apparently Spain is the second most mountainous country in Europe. This along side the fact that I had ...
Air raid sound. Thats how we woke up this time. Although, no air raid, just a noise a near by factory makes every now and then. SO, considering I was up early thought I would go for a run and I ended up getting chased by a massive tractor and saw a flat dog. Nevertheless this would be a good and, hopefully, normal day because we had planned to arive in Vera where we would meet Tracy (one of my ...
Vera, Andalusia, Spain chris_jones01... water on his head to cool down Olly offered a kind gesture.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Would you like me to hose you down whilst you rub yourself" - Oliver Williams. (I would like to point out that he said this legitimately with no intention of irony.)
Highlight: We saw a shop which sold electronic products called Electrohouse
Lowlight: We slept on a beetle infested mound
... We got there early enough to have breakfast then left for Almeria. The bus stopped 4 times but we only got off once for lunch.
When we got to Almeira we found out that there is only one car rental at the bus-train station and it was very expensive. I had rented a car on a courtesy hold at the airport. We got a cab for 11 Euros to the airport and had no problem getting the car. Be sure to get insurance! It ...
I had to wean myseft away from the area, and the next day just drove a bit up the coast, past more un(der)-developed beaches at Escullos and El Playazo, and ended up staying in Las Negras, another fishing village which is sleepy by the water-front but with massive construction going on behind it.
Las Negras, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands travellerbruceReturned to San Jose. Next day drove around to the town of Cabo de Gata, saw the salt-pans, went up the the "Cape", saw the incredible beach of Cabo de Gata, had great lunch there, then went around to the beach at Monsul. Eventually decided I HAD to leave!!
San Jose, Burgundy, Spain travellerbruce... salt-pools to the Cape. The views were spectacular, particularly of the beach which runs for about 20 miles around the bay towards Almeria. I sat and read my book in a restaurant on the front, and had a wonderful 3-cheese salad. Yummy. With the car at my disposal, I went off and discovered Monsul Beach, another almost-empty space with beautiful water, and then went back to San Jose to pack up. Not easy, as I'd had such a relaxing time there.
San Jose, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands travellerbruce... were only two other tourists, so it felt rather like a ghost town, but was an entertaining experience! The coast is spectacular, with rocks sculpted into weird shapes by the wind and waves, and towering headlands. One of these areas, Cabo de Gata, is a national park, which protects it from the kind of development which has spoiled some of the Costas. Actually, none of the coast around here has been ...
Garrucha, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands oldagetraveller... trip was our lunch with my family on Saturday. Angeles cooked up one last terrific paella and it was really fun for me to introduce Pierce to the family. It was hard to say goodbye. I feel so grateful for them for being so wonderful to me during my stay. They were definitely the best part of my experience. It was also great for Pierce to see me in my Spanish environment. He thought I'd improved a lot. It was great to be around someone who really noticed and ...
Cabo de Gata, Spain kylajane37... dinner. OH NO! I forgot to call ahead to get a vegetarian meal and the stewardess said there were no extras!! Oh well, I would survive. But just then, Erika came to my rescue!!! "Oh, you're a vegetarian? Somehow, I have vegetarian meals and I really don't want them, do you?" HOORAY!!! I'm a vegetarian again. Granted, I got my food 30 minutes before everyone else for this reason, but it was nothing special. I ate veggies and rice, couscous, cheese, bread, DIET coke ...
