... day trip to Pula. We wove through windy roads amidst olive fields and grapevines. Istria is the name of this region and its known for both its wine and olive oil.

The day was sunny and warm in early December and we got some great photos of the amphitheater. There's a $8 charge to get in, but you actually get better views from walking around outside. The views are unobstructed, so we ...

... up towards St. Euphemia church, at the top of the hill on this small peninsula. Every now and then you can peek out and see an alley that leads to the sea where a boat can park. It rained the first night we arrived but we didn't mind. It was the sea.

Apparently the fish are all trucked off to Italy for sale as Croatia only has a population of 4.1 million and Italy has 67 ...

    ... I wasn’t expecting to see.

The group gathered outside the hotel at 09:00 and made the downhill walk to the transit bus, which took us to the bottom of the hill where Peter was waiting in our tour bus. After a drive of about two hours, our first stop that day was Pula, where we had a walking tour with a local guide named Marya. We covered the Roman Amphitheatre, underground section and several other significant historic sights ...

... wifi did not work, the laundry was too expensive and too wet to get to the shower block!! Town was ok but put to shame by some of the other lovely ones we have seen. Tourist book said it was jewel of the Istria coast but think we need an up to date book! Resulted to hand washing and even had to put plug on the heater to get it ...
