... for a spot of lunch. Istrian sausages and local fish and chips, washed down by a rather decent glass of red. Perfect.

Pula turned out to be a real gem. We only picked it as a place to stay because it served to break the journey to Zadar. We had no idea it would prove to be so interesting.Maybe we should take some more left turns. We may discover other nuggets of gold on our journey.

... much surprised. Flash new hotel which wouldn't be out of place on the Gold Coast. For the price we paid (not very much), it would have to be the bargain of the year.

Prego -the specialty Italian restaurant was disappointing - very ...

We drove across the middle of the peninsula to Rovinj, a picturesque coastal town exuding a quiet charm. This was going to be our base for a few days. Again, we arrived without a reservation, but figured that we were at the tail end of the tourist season and would be able to find a room without any problem.

Armed with two guidebooks and our GPS, we went on the search and didn’t like what we saw at the first two stops. But we were in an ...
