... 500 km of bike trails, but today we decided to stick to the coastal path heading into the national park. The dry heat and smell of the forest reminded us of Australia. All the way along the track were Rocky beaches and people swimming and sunbathing. Every now and then we would have to make a detour around the naturist parks (there were a few). Just for a laugh I was tempted to strip off and cycle naked through one of these areas but ...

... point from Italy. So we bid farewell to ham products three times a day as our slow ferry lived up to its billing with a chug out into the Adriatic Sea. The town of Rovinj was alive and buzzing when we arrived at 9.30pm. A local group was singing very loudly on a stage by the water. People were drinking, dinning and wandering the streets. The locals were friendly and everyone seemed to be having a good time. I think we are going to like it ...

... word of warning...Those kind of beach rentals become available on July first (please note the date of this blog post.)

We first find a beach next to a campground and wander in thinking we might at least find shade. We do eventually wander to a beach with a bar and settle in for awhile but it isn't quite what we had ...

As long as we have a car, let's take a drive up the coast. Heading to Porec to admire mosaics in a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I first admire the polished stones of the shopping area of the old city. These must be a recent upgrade because they are mostly even and easy to walk on.

The first mosaics I notice are glimmering golden above a door in the 6th Century Euphrasian Basilica. We buy our passage and enter. There are columns that have ...

... 1940's and WWII .... Today it's a artistic community and tourist attraction. Rightly so with 360 deg views of the entire valley ..pretty awesome. It's a steep hike up a path to get to the top...no ADA accessibility here...we saw several old men and women wobbling up the mishmash of stone steps with canes... We walked the walls surrounding the town and and after an hour or so headed back. We headed east-ish to Pazin which was a strategic city during ...
