Milos and the beach!

Today we just got back from the most incredible rock beach. The rock was solid formations of bleached white stone, rising in cliffs and leaning into the clear blue sea. The water was warm and the sun was way to hot. The bus system here requires us to shell out about ten euros a day to get around, but its worth it. From camping last night (in the sometimes unsleepable heat!), we woke up and bused into town and then to the Sarakini (the rock beach.) Our camera ran out of batteries ...

Man, this is windy!!

... was too late to turn back, and we had to drive down very carefully. Getting down was not a problem. Getting back up proved to be a disaster.

Once down to the bottom we found a small beach in a naturally hollowed out cove at the base of a 700ft. cliff. There were a few people swimming and sunning themselves. We had seen all we cared to see and turned the car around in order to head back up the cliff road. Unfortunately, after getting to the very steep uphill part of the road our ...

The best island in Greece

... every night for sunset and became well acquainted with the two servers there. On our first night there we used our new Greek language skills to order two glasses of red wine. We have been working very hard to learn Greek and have been pleased with our basic skills.Unfortunately, the server stared at us and replied in English, “what did you say?” We then switched to English and said we wanted two glasses of red wine. Naturally ...

Milos secrets

... heard all over MIlos. He immediately pored me a small glass of Greek grappa - we toasted and swallowed it in one go. The second one was poured. A friendship has begun. If you want to have the best and cheapest Greek Salad in Milos you must eat at Manolis. But I must be fair; The 2 taverns serve excellent food and beverage. The second tavern is just in front of the first. The two of them are meeting points of the locals - all the "parliaments" of Milos ...

back to the secrets of Milos

... love, dogs, food and philosophy. If you have only 2-3 hours in Piraeus - in front of the port ask for the vegetable market . In the market there is a place (restaurant) called Palio Roloi ( old watch) don't miss that place . Only locals eat there - You will beguine your trip with the best lamb you ever ate. The restaurant is more than a hundred years old . The food delicious , specially if you don't mind to order a lamb's head.

Discovering the beauty of Folegandros

... say that the route to reach this beach is one of the two most interesting ones I have ever taken to reach a beach, the other being the Hippies’ Hidden Atlantis in Ibiza. To reach this beach by foot is an adventure in itself. We first walked quite a distance, which is not a problem at all as it was on flat land. Like the Virona Bay which we visited yesterday, Kartego Beach is ...

1st day in Folegandros

... This beach is
situated directly opposite Angali on the east side of the narrowest part of the island, facing the Aegean Sea. Snugly nestledwithin the Vorina Bay, the waters here wascalmer. However, the climb down to the beach was quite challenging as it was rather steep but we conquered it without any problem. It would have been much easier for me if Argi had warned me of all this walking and climbing, as ...

Milos an island of colours and rocks that are art!

... that can be viewed in my eyes as pieces of art. The bus firstly took us past the iron mines located on the western side of the island (which were abandoned in the 1890s) and then onto the very beautiful Tsigrado beach where l was surrounded buy imposing rocky formations colored in deep red and brown emerging and surrounding the turquoise sea and bordering the fine golden sand. Sarz and l sunbaked on our bright orange Easy cruise towels with the Canadian girls and swam in ...

... to the mountain where there is a church. The only problem was that we did not know how to get up there. After many efforts we end up heading up a goat path with the car. I was so nervous we were making turns with no barrier stopping us from driving off the edge the pictures don't do it justice how steep the road was. The view on top were unbelievable.

Still Milos.

... a short swim to the beach. We then sailed to Kleftiko (another beach) which was full of caves. History tells us the pirates used to hide their ships here waiting for their unfortunate prey. Andreas and I wasted no time in collecting our goggles and snorkel and swimming through these caves. In some cases, there was no light which although frightening, enabled our other senses to take control. The sounds were amazing. We were then taken to the ship via the inflatable where ...
