... Suites - for the princely sum of $18CA/night. Located in a central residential barangay (barrio) that is teeming with life. It is said that the Philippines most important export is people and that a major slice of its GDP comes from remittances so it should be no surprise that it is crowded and an overwhelming majority are poor. Diesel fumes hang in the air like smoke from an open fire. The traffic is complete anarchy with the only rule being "fortune favours the bold". Somehow it ...

During the afternoon they blessed us with prayers for our onward journey ...

... and the cab would only cost 150P ($3.75). When I checked at reception nobody knew anything about this

One person told me it would cost 200P, then another worker said 250P. This was getting ridiculous again when two people standing right next to each other have just given me two different prices. The owner had told me 150P and that he would be here in ...

... It gave me some perspective. I decided before I left that I would take Borrick, his wife, and Junfil to see a movie. One of the other volunteers, Kamila from Australia, was kind enough to babysit at the base while I took them out. It was probably one of the best days out of my time there. I convinced one of the other volunteers to come with me, and we took them to have pizza for the first time. They really didn't have any input on what they wanted to eat when we ...
