Up by five in the morning. Had an adventure getting to the bus station... Was in Volos by ten and on a boat an hour later.
The fatal flaw of my morning: Neglecting to put on sunscreen. On the boat, I sat in the shade for the better part of the trip. Went out into the sunshine only a few times to take in the view. While this ...
... classical concert from 9pm with soprano Carla Carretti and tenor Sergio Casalino, plus cello, violin & piano. The violinist was brilliant was worth seeing the show just to listen to him.. he did a bit of a solo and had a bit of a sense of humour a bit like Victor Borga... he played so fast the strings on his bow were coming a drift. Temp was around 19oC, warm and sunny stunning, fun packed day. Deb
Vólos, Thessaly, Greece hazdebI got the train to Volos from Larisa, considering it cost only 2.5 Euro and the roads being closed due to the farmers strike I decided it prudent to travel in that fashion. Upon arrival I was greeted by my CS host Kostas and his friend Nikos. We went to eat at the university cafe, for ...
Vólos, Thessaly, Greece b.a.manzella... was assassinated in 336BC. Back to Camping Hellas for a welcome swim. On Sunday we decided to go for a trip on the Pelios Mountain railway, a narrow gauge steam train that winds its way up from Kato Lehonia to Milies. Disappointingly the steam train is replaced by a diesel out of the main season. Our disappointment was soon forgotten though when we saw the views from the train. Taking 1½ hours to do a trip of about 35 ...

The party went on till 4am and I have not had so much fun since my partying days in Ibiza!!
People we met in Volos:
Before leaving Volos, I got to meet many people who matter most to Argi. I want to remember all these first meetings as it will be nice one day to reflect back and to remember how I first met all these wonderful people.
I met Argi’s parents’ neighbours from Athens, who had come to ...

A Surreal Encounter at Pelion:
On our way for lunch with the Lembesis family & Fotis back at the Pelion, we drove past a very small village and I saw an old Greek lady tending to her flock of goats under a huge tree. I asked Argi to stop the car immediately as the scene was so particular in a way and I wanted to capture it on my camera. I didn’t want to intrude into her privacy but at the same time, I really ...
... bridge built in 1787 also forms part of the attraction here.
Milopatamos:
From Tsagarada, we drove to one of the more popular beaches on Pelion called Milopotamos. This fabulous beach is situated just a few miles away from Tsagarada. Like many other beaches scattered along the Pelion, Milopotamos has just a short stretch of beach with massive rock formation at both ends. The calm turquoise water looked extremely ...
... little son, Johnaki. I was introduced to all of them for the first time and I must say that it was a little nerve wrecking, all these "first meetings" that I had and was about to have.
We enjoyed our breakfast thoroughly. It was a very informal affair and this guesthouse seemed only to be known by the locals. There were other guests around and they were all Greeks. I absolutely loved the feeling that I had, I felt like I was staying with relatives ...
... and several stone huts built complete with the traditional stone roof stacked on top of one another, which is very common among the old houses around the villages. The guesthouse has a website: www.arhonthikoioannidi.gr but it is in Greek. They do have an e-mail address where you can write to make enquiries : info@arhonthikoioannidi.gr
We chose to stay in one of the stone huts instead of the rooms in the Mansion as we liked the idea of having our ...
... directions and are told we've come exactly the wrong way from Athens and will need to take a cutoff north to join the National Road to Volos. It's 50k of winding road through the hills and we spend a good 30k of it behind trucks. Cars behind us, less patient, more fearless, jockey for position and pass us and the trucks on blind curves, helping to keeping things lively. Once on the National Road, it's back to superhighway style and we're in Volos by 7 ...
