Beautiful Nature of the Garden Route

I used the free wi-fi in the breakfast room at the Oude Meul Lodge just long enough to see that the weather report for the week did not look very promising. It looked like our luck with good weather would soon run out, as showers and overcast were predicted for pretty much the entire week. I had some pancakes, ostrich sausage, Rice Krispies, and fresh guava juice to make a great start to the day.

Suzan and I didn't have much packing to do since we’d only brought our small duffel ...

Been out of touch! Latest adventures

... Mr Watson.

Today, Friday had been a lovely day again. We are staying in a beautiful guest house in Knysna. This morning we have visited an elephant park where they look after orphaned elephants. We were up close and personal with these huge beasts! Feeding them with fruit and veg was a pretty messy business!

This afternoon we have walked miles along a beach beside the Indian Ocean. Fine to paddle but currents too stong to swim – well that's my excuse!

KNYSNA - ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES

KNYSNA ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES -
SOUTH AFRICA'S WESTERN CAPE -
GARDEN ROUTE

We finally woke to calmer weather Thursday morning and started the day with a lovely horse ride through the beautiful mountains behind Pletterberg Bay, where we over looked the valley and sea. 2 hours and 2 sore butts later but definitely a lovely way to see some of the beautiful scenery South
Africa has to offer. Not exactly extreme sports unlike what was to follow but that is a ...

A nice bush walk

... in places along the way. Tonight we got our last leg of the Baz Bus at 7pm and travelled Port Elizabeth arriving at 9.30pm. This is a very large city which has a large beachside resort style feel. Being here is just a wait for our bus tomorrow afternoon to Jo’burg. The Lungile Backpackers is a lovely old house with very comfy lounges and our room very nice and cosy with good doona and pillows. A cup of tea and then to bed.

Bloukrans Bungee: The Godfather of all Jumps!

... into the fitting mind-set. I say “potential” since it has been brought to my attention that there is a small percentage of only 1% of jumpers who might back down at the last minute. I guess it is totally related to the fact that who ever reaches this spot, has already made up their mind about it. “Never back down!” I demanded, grinning at Daniel. “I am already here, ain’t I?" with a big smile on his face he responded. Daniel and I ...

Finally some Drunken Madness ; )

... met two crazy girls ~ Anneka and Nina and had the 2 best nights out in all our time in South Africa. But before you get excited it really depends on your hostel crowd, we''we've since bumped into people who said Plett Bay was dead when they were there and they didn't enjoy it. We headed out with the two girls, Ray, George and Ben and had a great night. We went to Cuebar and Flashbacks (as far as ...

Garden Route pt 1

... town but doesn't hold that much for the backpacker - especially when the weather was pretty rubbish. That night another monster braai occured as we attempted to out do our previous nights one in the meat steaks (although still looking for a steak bigger than my head - then I will be properly satisfied!). The next morning we packed up our tent (which had survived 2 nights woohoo) and headed back onto the road for further adventures down the garden route!

Who can resist the highest bungy jump?

Just after I wrote my last email I discovered that someone had cloned my bank card when I looked on my online bank statements, so I spent an extra day where I was trying to sort that out – it took ages to call England to cancel my card and then I spent the morning in a South African police station which was fun! They managed to spend almost £1,000 in just one day, hopefully I'll be able to get it back. Thankfully I have a credit card to fall back ...

28th November 2006 - week ??? of my stay!

... they have started to decompose by the time we get them. We believe she died from a lung infection as her lungs were discoloured and out of shape. This weekend I'm off to Cape Town with a couple of the other volunteers, to do the things I didn't get to do when I was last there. Robben Island, Table Mountain and a pennisula tour to see the penguins. So I'll be able to tell you all about that next week. The rest of this week will be ...
