This place is loaded. The staff is wonderful the rooms are large and very reasonably priced and the beds! The beds are stupid comfy with down comforters and 2 pillows per bed! Lap of luxury for a backpacker.

The extensive wine growing regions outside the city were also highly visible. Then there was the dominance of the dramatic peaks behind Cape …

We are gathering at the Protea Breakwater Lodge on the old waterfront in downtown Cape Town. We will build our bikes, socialize and hear what our ride leader has planned for us for the next two weeks. Today we hike a gorge to the top of Table Mountain that dominates the city.

I found out later that the head of the Serbian security had gone up to reception and had wanted me thrown out because he thought I was an Australian reporter. I spent the next couple of hours in the company of Nena and Milorad and we had lunch as well as drinks at the hotel. After a bit I got a msg from ...
