    We went on a guided tour of the stadium. It was fun being with other tourists for the first time. They were all Brazilian tourists, most probably from the surrounding area. We visited the VIP boxes, the pitch, the locker rooms, the shower rooms. They have huge jacuzzis and also individual baths.

    ... br> There are a lot of people living on the streets here, but very little begging. Most of the people on the streets seem to spend all day passed out and wrapped up in blankets (despite the heat), but they don't ask for money. There is one boy in a wheelchair who sometimes sits outside the supermarket. The first time we saw him we gave him some money, but then we saw that the locals were giving him groceries, so now if he's there we buy him a packet ...

    ... this one attracts its fair share of eccentrics, and we had the dubious pleasure of waiting in line behind a local loon who, while not directly addressing us, was obviously directing his observations (in broken English) at us: "I need to study conversation Portuguese English"; "You like to see toilet woman"; "I have a monkey".
