Batman!

Veliko Tarnovo was a great stop for us. A lovely chilled hostel, free t-shirt, a fort, and a waterfall. What more could you ask for? We took an early morning bus from Sofia and got picked up by a guy from our hostel. The people running this hostel were really amazing. They constantly had friends coming over to hang out, made us several lunches of sopska salad and sausages, and even organized a trip for four of us out to a swimming hole with a small waterfall to jump off ...

Oh what a night

... as we were to busy talking, and decided that we must make the 12.30 one. At 11.45 realising that we still needed to pack, pay our bills and say goodbye, we actually started moving. The taxi was taking longer than expected to come and when it did we could hardley fit our bags in it. Wandered around and had a lovely lunch of a big pizza and drinks (all for about £3!) ate some ice cream and did a spot of shopping. We spent the night in the Dayonovo monastery. It was a little weird and the ...

He couldn't, and by the time we got to Wolverhampton he was shouting "is this the right train?" and demanding to know why the train didn't go to his hometown, which I'm not even sure has a train station. Fun stuff. Like Jan, he wasn't a bad person, but both could still be considered ***** by virtue of their personalities. We eventually got to the border and Jan got excited by the fact there was a long railway bridge between ...

A Welcomed Change of Mindset

... next morning. Fortunately for me (a person no longer willing to take any overnight train in Eastern Europe), I would reach my destination, Veliko Tarnovo, by 8 pm. It should be just in time for dinner. Except for a Turkish woman from Ankara, all other passengers in my compartment are backpackers from outside the Balkan Region. The Kiwi (New Zealand) woman sat across from me had been to Turkey before and this was her second trip. She loves Turkey quite a ...
