Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

... was beautiful architecture there, we didn't stay long. Pretty much just spent the night and took the next train to Milan. We chilled in Milan for the day, did some shopping, (Milan is one of the fashion capitals of the world after all!) and met some absolutely wonderful girls on the street. We ended up going for coffee with them, had a lovely visit and explored the city. They knew all the best places to go! We went to an Italian church with Assina and she invited ...

Hannibal crossed the Alps on elephants. A movie we saw at primary school left its mark. I love elephants and remember feeling distressed by the scenes of the magnificent beasts in the snowy mountains. They were clearly not happy despite the scenic splendour.

For travellers seeking warmth we made a few rather odd route choices but then again we do love passes, mountain passes. We've had a number ...

Yesterday we went back to Bellagio because my mom booked two kayaks for us to go along the side of the peninsula. We got off the ferry and had to walk across to the other side of Bellagio which isn't that big. Once we got to the dock they had the kayaks ready for us and we had two hours until they had to be back. We found an archery wall that they used for the war around 1000 years ago, in Italy everyone ...

... took photos with the group. Back on the bus to the hotel in Lake Maggiore (called Grand Dino), back by 4.30pm, rest the out to a restaurant nearby for dinner with a few of the group, Peter had seafood pasta and I had vegetarian cannelloni. Bought bracelets for gifts back home, walked through to the sister hotel ...
