Sail Croatia - taking a dive

... anchor for a swim, which is where the attached photo was taken. This process of waking up sailing down the coast, followed by a swim, sun baking, lunch, drinking, swim, drinking games, dinner in the local port and clubbing became to routine for the week. A great way to spend a week. By the end of the trip all 30 people on the boat were good mates, (with dark tans and wild stories). Definitely a must do trip, would definitely do it again.

Croatia, going south, has the most amazing coastal roads with fantastic view of the Adriatic. Add to that the range of mountains running along the other side and it was a really lovely drive. We missed the earlier ferry to get onto the island and decided to drive further down the coast and drive on from the peninsular end. Because ...

Cooling Off in Korcula

... arrival we encountered several fairly pushing accomidation touts but found a little old lady who approached us after we fought off the rest. She offered us a room that was opposite the bus station and riht on the old town's doorstep with a little kitchen and balcony looking over the town and ocean. It was a little pricey but absolutly worth it. With the town being fairly small, everything was ...

... in the country, which was always full and accepted no reservations. The gangplank would go down, the scruffy budgeters would leap forth and scurry about looking for the elusive and fabled hostel. In my haste to flee Mljet I'd taken a smaller, faster, earlier ferry. I secured a place in the hostel, and resolved not to leave for as long as possible. The food was good, the town was gorgeous, the water was clear and the beaches uncrowded. It didn't seem real ...

... and made it down to Zadar. walked around the town a little, lots of roman ruins, and then hung out at our hotel, where the owner just wouldn't stop talking and he showed us all of his fruit trees in his backyard (sound familiar?) They are very into having an arbor over the driveway covered with a kiwi vine. looks good, and delicious. everyone has one. We drove the next day down toward Split, stopping in some nice ...

so awesome

... so different than my own makes me feel so small and realize how different our lives in the states are from most of the worlds. The hostel we are currently in is quite nice. It's in the bottom level of a large estate, where we had a living room, TV, fridge and extra blankets and warm water and towels! This morning has been my first shower with a towel and hot water. I felt like a princess. All for only $16 ...

... beer. We were in luck because the windsurfer under no other propulsion than the current had drifted in front of the bar. The bartender and I discussed the merits of learning something new and the strength of the wind. Like most beer conversations I felt we were discussing some profound philosophy that somebody had to write down due to its importance and depth and that we had formed some type of bond. In the end I think the ...

The Jewel of the Adriatic

... despite being september and the end of the tourist season, the place was packed. There was a musical trio playing in the mote area outside, they were decked out in the italian renaissance gear, tight pants, puffy sleeves, very swiss guard-esque. We stopped and listened for a while, admiring their professionalism when the whole of their music blew off the stands and all over the area, some of it over the high walls, and yet they kept playing ...

... be given the fact that we don't speak Croatian, but as soon as we got back to the apartment we fell into a conversation with the granny that itself made Pula an interesting diversion. Although granny spoke not a word of English, our splotchy Italian and her occasional use of Spanish made it possible to understand a small fraction of what she was saying. Fair enough, we figured, had this been our own Croatian granny (apparently 25% of Steve is rumored to have come from ...

Most amazing city and my apartment

... no cars can be in the city. The rest of the alleys that make up the city sprout off of this location. The main walkway is also one of only 3 flat walks. The rest of the alleys going East and West are all steps, almost as if the city were a steep bowl. (I can't seem to get away from steep hills, hiking or stairs!) Anyway, at this point I did all that I could manage. Plopped myself down in a Cafe, ordered some Cappachino, a fattening dessert and watched people until it came time ...
