... for total independence. It's comforting to know that I am capable of doing it - with women cooking for me! Just jokes! David and I will give it a go tonight (june 28th and the Iron chef challenge will be ON!). It was pretty funny tho. Because as I sat there drinking Croation beer and watching the volleyball game, I said Ah, this is the life. Zrob mi obiad kobieta! (Make me dinner woman!). Disclaimer: I am not sexist in anyway and was merely joking! We all shared a good laugh tho! <br>

"Best of the Adriatic"

... t buy it. If we could have, I would have bought several bottles! The old town of Cavtat, in the very center of the South Adriatic, is situated at the south slopes of the peninsula of Rat, in the immediate vicinity of Dubrovnik. Know as Epidaurum in ancient times, it is today the tourist and cultural center of Konavle, the southermost region of ...

The best of Dubrovnik

... Pile Gate and the girls played on the park equipment even though it was still not completely dry. Georgie was caught red handed! Literally. We went down to the small beach that is just beside the Pile Gate and then walked around from there towards the fort (Lovrjenac) that sits on the hill just outside the city walls. We continued our walk and found a very pretty park sitting above the water, with pathways down to ...

... three Elaphite islands) for 1/10th the price just by taking one of the local Jadrolinja ferries. They leave from Gruz, not the old town, but it's only a 5-minute bus ride away (1A or 1B). 2) We arranged a room through Villa San apartments (just outside the Pile Gate) and were very pleased. Their apartments were too expensive for us, but they put us in touch with a woman who rents a small room just behind their apartments. Still a little more than we'd ...

Dubrovnik City Tour / Island Hopping

Friday, May 25, 2007 Dubrovnik City Tour / Island Hopping Dear Readers: The day begins with a city sightseeing tour. We start by taking the bus to a panoramic overlook with amazing views over the old city. The weather is absolutely perfect. Our guide, Daniella, takes us on a walk around the old city atop the massive fortifications. Around each corner are views that surpass description. I will have to allow the photographs to speak for themselves ...

Ah, the Sea Breeze finally!

... 1. I am too embarrassed about two critical travel mistakes. If I were a bigger person I would come right out and tell them. 2. The name of the place was called Villa Kipre. I want to give them a little plug since they were so hospitable. 3. Then I don't know why I am so hairy but I just am. 4. Most of my pretend novels were about coming of age stories for out of work teens in small American towns. 5. Or are not stupid enough to haul their toddler(s) around the world.

The Pearl of the Adriatic

... On the way, we wound up meeting a woman who showed us an extra room she had in her house. It was in a pink building overlooking the old town, and was by far one of the largest buildings on the side of the hill. We took an upstairs room with low, slanted ceilings. Her mother-in-law lived downstairs. And she had another apartment for rent on the bottom floor. We sat in her kitchen drinking homemade sherry and eventually wound up on the porch drinking beers with her ...

"Dubrovnik: The cat's meow, the city of King"

... our way to the "highway" from the hotel was much easier than the reverse had been, partly aided by the fact that we smartly followed the taxi that was taking passengers from our hotel with luggage at the same time we were leaving. The road south from Split to Dooby is long and winding. It is almost exclusively a single lane in each direction, and the ride took between three and four hours. However, the drive was Kantian: not just a means to an end, but an end in itself! For over ...
