... that day went up to a volcano lake called Lake Pavin. The roads were twisty and windy and mum wouldn't have liked it! We walked up steep stairs all around the village , found old ruins and a church , a market the day we left. Weather was fine but still a little cold . We then travelled on to Valliguiere .

... on. Our first stop after leaving the beautiful vineyards of Burgundy was the well known town of Vichy, where the famous bottled water comes from. We had no idea what to expect from this town but as we were just having a one night stopover and the town was within walking distance we decided to have an amble about.

... 8364;1.99 (£1.53) was brilliant value so we shall put a couple in our trolley on our next visit. It went down a treat with our pasta later. Back to the sightseeing. A half hour journey from the site took us to the base of Puy de Dome, NW of Clermont-Ferrand, where you arrive at the car park, visitor centre and station. First we had to negotiate ourselves out of the car park and into the Aires car park, which we did with much miming and sign language, our French not being as good as our poor German. Clermont-Ferrand, we discovered, is Michelin tyre city. The head office and an enormous factory were situated just next to our camp spot.
