Principe Di Savoia Milan

The Principe de Savoia in Milan is a grande dame of a 19th-century hotel. The decor is opulent, verging on Baroque excess.

Unfortunately, most rooms look out onto streecar tracks and loud traffic. Air conditioning runs only in hot months. Customers seeking air in their rooms in other months must put up with the din of traffic.

Service is so/so. Watch phone time: they charge outrageous fees by the minute. A serious rip-off. Concierges tend to send clients to mediocre restaurants from which they get a commission.

Overall, the hotel is not worth its very expensive rates. I would not stay there again.

As a connoisseur of 5 star hotels worldwide, and a marketing specialist, I know quality. In my opinion, attention to detail is what makes a hotel memorable or forgettable..

Let us first remind ourselves; the 5 star in Italy is not the 5 star of Sydney or Paris. Also, Milan is not as warm and welcoming as Roma or such. For Milan, this hotel is excellent.

I stay here often, and made the mistake of trying another hotel recently, which sent me running back to the Principe di Savoia! This hotel is exquisite for Italy; I guess the few folks who had bad experiences here were just unlucky, or don't stay in Italian hotels often, they should have complained and been upgraded, this hotel is as good as it gets in Italy. They jump when you call, and respect your privacy when you request it, first class.

The decor is delightfully done, if not slightly less sumptuous than some other simialr hotels in the world. The room sizes are very generous, the suites excellent. Whilst not the 'best hotel in the world' (George V in Paris wins that hands down every time), or even in Italy, this hotel is definitely the best in Milan, if you prefer genuine quality and dignified refinement. Nice staff and an acceptable experience.

I have been a regular guest at the Hotel Principe di Savoia for the past thirty years and I have always considered it to be the most exclusive and luxurious Hotel in Milan but in the last couple of years I was a bit disappointed in the decline in the quality of the service. Now that it has become part of the Dorchester Group I have greatly noticed that the level has returned to its customary splendour. The service is again impeccable, the staff is young and friendly and the new image of the Hotel is up-to-date and fresh. I am highly impressed with all the positive changes I have seen and which have allowed the Principe to regain its well-deserved first place in my heart.

After a week of skiing, our family stayed 1 night at Principe di Savoia before flying back to the US. The hotel is lovely, the rooms elegant (almost extravagant), the health club amazing for an in-town hotel, and the staff was extremely helpful with all requests. It is truly a grand hotel in the best tradition of old Europe -- but expect to pay BIG EUROS! (Example: a simple one-course meal for 2 adults & 2 teens, in the casual restaurant, with no alcohol, cost nearly EU200). Location is good, although not quite as prime as Four Seasons.

I would definitely stay here again -- especially if travelling on business with someone else paying.

I have been at Principe with my wife on September 2004, Milan was amaizing and the hotel simply great! The ambience and the atmosphere unique, excellent service.

We got a Deluxe room which was one ofthe most elegant standard room I have ever seen in my life! The food?? no words for the quality of the buffet breakfast.

I have stayed here before and was impressed but the hotel is now old and needs a renovation. I moved rooms 3 time and even then was not satisfied. The marble bathrooms and aqua di parma products are lovely but the paint is chipping off the walls and the internet connection is randomly located- there are scuffs on the wall and the bedspread was pilling- not worth the money!

Spent the last night prior to departing for home. The hotel and its concierge defines what it means to understand the needs of its customers. In the word of one its staff, don't worry its taken care of thats our job. The rooms are fantastic and it was a great place to spend our last night.

The only thing to watch out for is the cost of the brunch. Great items but 50 bucks a person is a bit steep.

Ah, travelling on OPM! But I'd go back and spend my own hard earned money on the Principe. Although the location is a bit distant from many of the reasons to be in Milan, the subway is very near, and you're only 2 stops from the Duomo. But the hotel is exquisite: the service, the rooms, the ambience. What could be a better antidote to a jetlagged first afternoon than a swim in the lovely indoor pool and a steam in the steamroom? The concierge reminds you of what concierges ought to be but so seldom are--knowledgeable, very helpful and unobtrusively charming. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say--I'll be back!

It has been more than a year since I had the privilege of staying at the Principe and I truly cannot wait to get back. THe service has always been polite, prompt and refreshingly helpful. The decor is splendid old world luxury, and the clientle notorious (I "bumped" into Donatella while she was en-route to her suite. I would never stay anywhere else in Milan, that goes without saying.

I recently spent 4 nights here. The hotel gives an initial impression of luxury in the grand old sense. However, look deeper and you find a hotel rapidly passing its' prime and not adjusting to current day needs. Service was generally slow, maybe reflecting how things used to be. Rooms are a decent size, comfortable, but again, tired. The desk provided in my "Office" room was fine, except that the nearest power point and data point were both on the other side of the room. The laptop truly became on one this stay.
