Last Full Day in Andorra

... having a beer and watching a man try to dig his van out of the snow. To my knowledge his van is to this moment where it was when I left the bar.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to post some pictures of Canillo when it's snowy and the sun comes out. Don't have too many, but figured it was worth a post.

The Two Faces of Andorra

... month). I wandered around Andorra la Ville, the capital city here, for the majority of today. This is when I realized the importance of shoes that don't get wet in the snow, even my two pairs of socks defense was useless to stand up to the icy attacker. When I realized everything in the capital relates to shopping for things that cost insane amounts of money, I decided to trek back here and post some pictures. Hope you like them and I'll keep you updated.

Change of Plans?

Found out today that the 90 day tourist visa that I thought we were granted for each country is actually for the combined Senchgen countries. Since we'll be at least 60 days in France alone, it means we won't be doing the France, Italy, Greece and then Turkey route we had planned on in the length of time we'd ...

Tales from the Pit

Those Chickens are up to Something Mrs. Tweedy

Chickens are hilarious! They’re always running around like there’s a great catastrophe and the different sounds they make are quite hilarious.

Every night before dark it’s important to shut up the chickens to protect them from predators. When we arrived, the chickens were ...

... refrigeration for the meat. With wind-chill, that was absolutely frigid for 45 minutes! And with the winding mountain roads, the weight of the meat kept shifting into me with the occasional trotter popping out from under the covering.

Watching Austin process the carcase into usable joints of meat was truly a work of art. His knife flew, knowing exactly where to cut and slicing with one quick motion. Any small ...

ANDORRA- #100 AND COUNTING

... never French. As in Barcelona, though, the main language is Catalan, one of Andorra’s few claims to fame. For me, though, it has another claim to fame. THIS IS MY 100TH COUNTRY!!! WHOOPPEE!! BREAK OUT THE CHAMPAGNE!!! As it is, I’ll settle for a decent meal and a decent night’s sleep. At least I have a decent room for a decent price, so better than the last night in Barcelona and no small consideration for any ...

A land oft forgotten by cartographers

... arrogant Pyrennes peaks laughing at us from on high. Not wishing to tackle local transport, we set our sights on the hill that loomed at us from out of our room's window. Having convinced Ryan of the simplicity of the plan, and convincing him locals dubbed the mountain "Mt. Easy to Climb", we set off. Now another event that coincided with our arrival in Andorra was, what Ryan would diagnose as, nuemonia. No matter what you call it, my lungs were decidedly upset at this period in ...

OFF-PISTE

... s first great idea was: "Let´s duck under that safety fence and go over that steep, snowy cliff." We descended the cliff - slowly - going down mostly on our butts. A chair-lift ran right above us. People on the chair-lift laughed at us, especially when Pete snowboarded straight into a bushy pine-tree branch that dumped forty pounds of snow on him. Snow jingle-belled down on us on this beautiful, bad-weather Saturday. The Northern Irishmen and I flew off launching snow ...

MAGIC IN THE MOUNTAINS

... the exact same sweatshirt as her. The sweatshirts both read "Etoli" or something - I don´t know what, I hate logos. So, Klara - straight blond bangs hanging to her eyes - immediately jumped into over-dramaticized excitement over her fellow shirt-mate. She pulled on her shirt; she pointed around to it; she wore the dumb-founded look of someone easily amazed. The English guest didn´t catch on to her sarcasm. "They don´t get my jokes," she lamented to me, her little face ...
