Like the monkey park it was definitely worth the extra effort to get there and it is clear to see why the Japanese place such cultural and even spiritual importance on Fuji as it is so aesthetically pleasing and absolutely dwarfs everything around it. ... level of the shopping centre as all the restaurants had a long queue. It was peak lunch hour. The only downside was there was no place to sit and eat. The Japanese do not eat in public except for an ice cream. Unfortunately, the only option was to eat in the hotel foyer or out in the open at the quadrangle outside the hotel. ... our descent and walk slowly down. Now the suffering starts as climbing down is becoming the bigger challenge than the hike up. The gravel is loose and you have to pick carefully where to step without loosing the balance.
Now I regret that I wear soft shoes and my toes start to hurt. The climbing down takes all of our forces and we think that we have used the same amount of time as going up.

This is the highlight of the trip and we start in the evening from the Fujinomyia station on 2400m. The temperatures are still very high and as we go they are falling as the sun sets.

All in all, it took me about 4 hours to reach the summit. In this time I had a few breaks from climbing and ate some food etc. I will warn that you bring plenty of food and drink with you as prices in the mountain cabins are a complete rip off. For example, a bottle of water ...
