Not my best day today. I decided on a bit of a whim yesterday that I was going to take a trip to Mt Fuji. I booked a hotel online at the last minute just before I fell asleep, didn't book any train tickets, didn't look at the weather forecast, and then got up this morning and started the trek to Kawaguchiko, one of the towns in the foothills of the mountain with reputedly excellent mountain views over a lake. Can you foresee any problems that may have ...

... sky's and fuji not blocked by any other mountains in the way(see pictures). Like the monkey park it was definitely worth the extra effort to get there and it is clear to see why the Japanese place such cultural and even spiritual importance on Fuji as it is so aesthetically pleasing and absolutely dwarfs everything around it. I'm off to Nagoya tomorrow as I head more into western ...

... level of the shopping centre as all the restaurants had a long queue. It was peak lunch hour. The only downside was there was no place to sit and eat. The Japanese do not eat in public except for an ice cream. Unfortunately, the only option was to eat in the hotel foyer or out in the open at the quadrangle outside the hotel. Well, Joseph decided for outside and we were pretty much stared at. I guess at that stage, I didn't really care ...

... had some fun on the lake. Mt. Fuji showed up a while and the exercise was memorable.

Only relying on public transportation means we have to spend much time traveling from one place to another. We had to take two buses, in between transfer 30-min waiting, to get to our next stop, bat's cove. The cove was really like a secret base underground. In some places you have to not only kneel down, but lie down and crawl! Quite cool inside, even a little cold. After ...

After the downhill challenge - relax in paradise

... our descent and walk slowly down. Now the suffering starts as climbing down is becoming the bigger challenge than the hike up. The gravel is loose and you have to pick carefully where to step without loosing the balance.
Now I regret that I wear soft shoes and my toes start to hurt. The climbing down takes all of our forces and we think that we have used the same amount of time as going up.
