Today I headed to mt fuji. It was a 4 and a half hour trip, setting off at 6.30 am and arriving by 11am at my hostel. Having postponed my trip to fuji because of bad weather 3 days ago, I was hoping for a clear day for the best views. At first Fuji was covered by some low hanging clouds but as the day wore on I got lucky again and they gradually dispersed. I decided that the best ...

... station where the bus departs to station 5 on the Fuji

This is the highlight of the trip and we start in the evening from the Fujinomyia station on 2400m. The temperatures are still very high and as we go they are falling as the sun sets.
There are many people on the way down and all pass with a kind greeting "Konichiwa". As experienced climbers we adopt a steady slow walking style and get passed by groups of younger ...

... and offer great views of the surrounding area and of the changes in weather as you get higher and higher into the clouds.

All in all, it took me about 4 hours to reach the summit. In this time I had a few breaks from climbing and ate some food etc. I will warn that you bring plenty of food and drink with you as prices in the mountain cabins are a complete rip off. For example, a bottle of water ...
