... was included in our trip. We had a very traditional Japanese meal and it was very, very nice! It had three slices of raw tuna (even after our meal before we still enjoyed it) a very nice piece of cooked salmon, a couple pieces of fried chicken Japan style, prawns, a bowl of rice and a noodle soup. Neither of us left a single bit which is always a good sign.
After lunch we headed 45 minutes away to a cable car up a neighbouring mountain for some fantastic views of Mount Fuji and lake ...

The beginning of the climb was rather easy, just a gradual slope with a bit of loose gravel and ash, but as we climbed higher and higher it became steeper and steeper, with increasingly difficult terrain. I had assumed that the mountain was part of a chain and would be part of a larger chain but Mount Fuji may as well be the Misty Mountain from the Hobbit in terms of its lonely yet glorious position. The weather was hazy for most of the time unfortunately (Michael said it was typical for this time of the year) and at some points in ...

... monkeys along the way!!!! So a good day.
Today was also a nice day but very hazey. You could see the mountain OK but the few photos I took look quite washed out. Walked right around Lake Kawaguchi-ko and around the little town a bit. I would have climbed Mt Fuji but the season to climb does not start until July 1st. Yeah right!!!!
As you can see there is still a lot of snow on ...

... cold Kirin beer i just got from the local kombini. Funny thing is that if you speak like only 2 words Japanese, some locals start talking to you like you know the entire language. Only to be slightly shocked and weary when you actually don't. :-) Went back to the hostel and chatted a bit with Beate, Bob from England and some other guys from Australia, France and Japan before going to bed at 11pm. Luckily my jetlag isn't as bad as i expected so i fell asleep right ...
