Scary landing but finally arrived to Siem Reap

What a horrid landing in Kuala Lumpur! I swear we were just inches away from landing on the wing tip. The KL airport is pretty good. Not overcrowded with good shops to browse. We are booked to go all the way through to Siem Reap, so it is just a matter of jumping on the train for one stop and boarding the plane from here. Took 2.5hrs to get to Siem Reap, where we were met by our driver in his tuk-tuk, Mr Marom. I had pre booked Marom after reading high recommendations on the internet. I had t...

Angkor Thom & Angkor Wat

Marom met us after a great breaky of the usual bacon, eggs, pancakes etc and our first stop was Angkor Thom at the south gate entrance. This was pretty awesome with the towers & 4 faces pointing N-S-E-W. The bridge which crossed the moat was called the avenue of gods & asuras (demons). Once we walked through the gates, we were jumped on by the many, many touts. "Madam, Madam bracelet for you - $1" Mister, you want a book, Mister". There were also elephants lined up that would take you...

More Angkor Wat & Ta Prohm

A very early start as we were being collected at 4.30am to head out to Angkor Wat for the sunrise. We were actually the first "tourists" to arrive and although still very dark it was amazing to have the place almost to ourselves and to try and find the best vantage point for a photo shoot. As the sun started to rise and we moved around a bit, we found a shocking site of hundreds of people standing & arriving behind us. Once again we missed out on a spectacular sunrise but we got a few goo...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Prince D''Angkor Hotel & Spa Siem Reap

A Breath of Fresh Air

from janedian
After staying for four nights at a disgusting, cheap hotel in Saigon, the Prince D'Angkor was like a breath of fresh air. It was clean, beautiful and spacious. The staff was incredibly friendly. Their pool and fitness center was perfect. I was hoping for some water aerobics or fitness classes, but to be honest, it was nice to not have any music playing or any interruptions. A true sanctuary. Siem Riep is a quaint little town on the forefront of a tourism boom. Angkor Wat is absolutely incredible. I highly recommend the Prince D'Angkor for your stay in Siem Riep.

Massive disappointment

from ananonymousfriend
Do not stay at this place unless you want a miserable time. We visited for Xmas 2006 spent 145 USD a night for a room with furniture which looked 20 years old very grim room, totally indifferent almost rude staff and low quality of food. Largely ruined our Xmas experience. We checked out as soon as we could moved across the road and paid half for a much better place. It seems Siem reap has a lot of relatively cheap and very expensive places with the difference in prices not reflected in the accommodation. In my view one to avoid - Do not go here!

Great Hotel

from CCW-TA
Very good hotel - however, there are loads of new hotels in Siem Reap and nearly all the new ones look similarly grand and of the same rating.

As KatyH mentioned above - they do pass information to local guides who will come and collect you from the airport (to our surprise), but they charge the same price as getting a taxi from the airport to the hotel ($5). Whether you want to use them as a driver is completely up to you and I did not felt pressurised into doing so.

Hotel is in a good location - with many shops on the main street. It's only 15 mins walk to the Center Market (Phsar Kanda) and do try the hot pot restaurant on the left of the hotel just to have a change of food after many khmer curries.

On arrival we got given a 25% discount for a massage at their spa ($20 down to $15 for 1 hour) but the massage was not so great. We got a better (legit) massage just outside the hotel for $5 (1 hour).

Laundry service was very expensive at the hotel - so if you've been travelling around, I suggest you use your 'previous' hotel's laundry service to wash your clothes first.

All in all, very nice clean, quiet and relaxing hotel with a good selection for breakfast and good service. Well worth staying at.

Great hotel, fantastic country

from KatyH
Siem Reap was a surprise as a town - tourism is really taking over, with new hotels being built all the time. However it's still a fantastic town, feels very safe and the locals are very friendly.

The Prince D'Angkor Hotel was a lovely hotel, rooms were clean and service was good. Only thing to watch out for is they will let local guides know when you are arriving who will then collect you from the airport and tout for your business.

We did actually use one of their guides and he was very good and we had our own airconditioned car. We did feel as though we'd missed out on the real-Angkor experience in a tuk tuk but as the weather was either scorching or pouring when we were there we were glad for this small luxury.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. I would also like to recommend the Karma Sutra on Bar Street - best curry we've ever had, not for those afraid of a bit of spice!

Great Hotel in the Heart of Siem Riep

from mahalo11
Really nice hotel in the heart of town. We had a King Deluxe room that overlooked the pool area. Rooms were on the large side with all the amenities and a whole slew of tv stations to pick from. Large well lit bathrooms and everything in the hotel was very clean. Loved the hotel and would not hesitate to return.

Fantastic hotel in the heart of town!

from michaelbelfast
Stayed here at the end of August after a month travelling in Asia. This hotel has a fantastic location right in the heart of Siem Reap although it is extremely tranquil and beautifully designed.

The hotel is of beautiful contemporary but local design. I stayed in a luxury room overlooking the magnificent pool and was not diissapointed. The room was large and well appointed with every modern facility.

The staff were very helpful and extremely dignified and professional. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough! If you are travelling to Siem Reap it is a must! A real haven after a day of intense and exhausting sightseeing.

Nice and convenient

from A TripAdvisor Member
Unlike most hotels in Siem Peap which located along the 6th highway, This Hotel is in a very convenient town center location. It takes not more than 5 minutes by Tuktuk or 10 minutes walk to the old market. So it's not dangerous at all to travel during the night time. And just in front of the hotel, there is the mini-mart where we can find all necessary stuff in reasonable price. The room is new and clean with a small balcony which has a nice pool view. In-room TV has around 70-80 channels with a VCD player. Breakfast was good with variety of food. We had to check out on time (1200pm) but the hotel provided shower room for free in the spa area after the afternoon trip before head back to the airport. Even the hotel is in the center but it's not nuisance at all. Two things that I would complain were one lady at frontdesk was not very handy and told us that it would cost 4-5 US dollars to the old market, but the real thing is only 1dollar to anywhere in Siem Reap. The other thing is a hammaring noise above our room at 1100pm for 15 minutes. Anyway, I still would like to recommend this hotel.

Excellent Services with Good Hospitality

I have enjoyed my comfortable stay for 3 days in the Prince D' Angkor Hotel & Spa in Siem Reap while I was exploring the Angkor. I would recommend that you should experience with this Best Hotel and Spa, so that you will get all what I got.

GOOD LOCATION! CITY CENTER HOTEL IN THE HOME OF ANGKOR!

Relaxing haven after a long day touring Angkor Wat

from yeva0111
We had no reservations upon arrival in Siem Riep and our cab driver from the airport brought us here. It had just opened at the time. Service is great, rooms were very spacious and comfortable and the bathrooms well-lit (we had visited other hotels with the cabbie and many of them had dark bathrooms which I can't stand). We had a balcony with a view of the pool area. Spent the hot afternoons lounging by the pool area which was nice and large enough to not feel crowded. The morning buffet has a great variety of Western and Eastern foods to choose from. The only real minus I would point out is that even though the hotel was quite new, you could tell that the upkeep was starting to fall behind (gum wrappers in the elevator that sat there for days, dirt stains on the nice Asian carpets in the lobby sitting area).

4-star price for 5-star value !

from A TripAdvisor Member
Very central location. Walking distance to shops, eateries, internet cafes, massage etc. 10-15 mins drive to Angkor Temples. 10-15 mins drive to airport. Clean. Modern. Well-maintained. Hotel is only 2-3 years old. Good breakfast. Good service. Spacious room with bathtub and enclosed shower area. Officially rated as 4-star, but I felt I paid 4-star price for 5-star value! In terms of location, try to avoid hotels along Airport Road, may be cheaper but there is no shops/entertainment etc within walking distance. I highly recommend this hotel because I truly enjoyed my stay there. In fact, I almost got a hotel along Airport Road, but my tour agent told me it was full, and am I glad it was ! Important thing to note, but I do not know if it is seasonal, is that there is quite a lot of mosquitoes in Siem Reap, so have a powerful repellant or be covered. On the whole, I really enjoyed my holiday there and I hope you will too! (I took 341 photos in 4 days !)
