Fall In Seoul

I was moving in, there were guys out in the yard clearing brush, but none of that bothered the pheasant roosting in my back yard.

Here is the house, it is a duplex, by buddy Ray lives on the other side. Happy Chuseok!

... white fruits are placed in the West, and there cannot be any peaches offered. Apparently peaches upset the ancestors, which could result in a poor harvest next year. One of the most common foods eaten during this time is songpyeon, which is a type of rice cake with pine needles. On Chuseok eve, families make the songpyeon together under the full moon. It is also common for people to wear hanbok, which is traditional Korean clothing.

I love the pagan ...

Beijing Awaits

... there were so many people...was this a special camping area for homeless individuals? Then I slowly realized that most of these folks were waiting for trains. They had spilled out of the Main
Railroad Station waiting areas.

In order to get to the hostel across the multi lane freeway, we had to walk by the front of the station, so we picked our way carefully among so many human beings. A chaotic week...

... always be able to sleep at night.

The point is that while Philip may have been unprepared, and should shoulder some of the responsability, he is only partly culpable - yet he is getting all of the blame! As a result, he has been suspended from teaching the new classes, and will transfer to another campus in the near future which will involve basic teaching from a textbook - easy but very dull. It's true, our job can be very stressful because of the ...

The flight and arrival

... Service was lovely. The first meal that was served had a choice of Korean food or American. I tried the Korean which was Bibimbap a type of soup that has to be assembled. I received a card with directions. The soup bowl had spices and an assortment of vegetables. The flight attendant added hot water and then I added hot white sticky rice, a little of the hot pepper paste, sesame oil and mixed it. It was quite good. I saw another version of it at ...

Random acts of kindness

... by side until I reached my destination. It was so pleasant and I felt gratitude for that moment and for her random act of kindness. Although we were unable to verbally communicate, words were unneccessary. The language of love and gratitude are beyond words, and in the words of Helen Keller "The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or heard. They must be felt with the heart." I got my sign.... The following day while I was at the gym getting ready for work ...

Day 1

... The boys are a bit of a handful; the girls are quite sweet. It'll be an interesting year..... The school day finished at 7pm and afterwards the director took me to dinner. She is very kind. We went for spaghetti and pizza, as she didn't want me to get sick. I still haven't had any Korean food yet, as everyone seems to think I won't be able to handle it! I got home around 10pm, completely shattered after a VERY long first day in Korea.

Just another entry.

... my mind about the comforter! Ha! I love cooking in my tiny tiny tiny kitchen! I go to the store and buy all kinds of stuff that I can use in multiple dishes. Like rice! I eat rice all the time. It is a staple in Korea (duh!) and in my kitchen. For some reason, I cannot make rice to save my life when I am in the states, but I am a pro in Korea. I make plain rice; rice with egg and toasted sesame seeds; rice with milk, sugar, raisins ...

Christmas in Korea plus adventures at Yongpyong

Well it wasn't officially a white Christmas but we had snow early in the week and there was still some unmelted snow on the ground on Christmas day so I was happy. Christmas was incredible here, the hotel put on a Christmas brunch for the residents complete with a Korean Santa and staff putting on a live concert. The food was fantastic, I didn't have to clean up afterwards and the mood was great so all in all it was ...
