Fort St. James, British Columbia, Canada peterpandaThe highlight of today's trip was the First Nations village and museum at Gitanyow. Some of the totems are extremely old. One has been carbon-dated to the early 1600's!

I stopped for the night at Beaumont Provincial Park, which is about an hour west of Prince George. Nice campground, but no showers. Tomorrow will be a long drive, since I didn't get as far as I had hoped.
Fraser Lake, British Columbia, Canada sueonthegoA beautiful day in British Columbia. Woke up around 7:00 (yes, I know it is early for vacation but I need to get ready for the inevitable "back-to-school" thing). I also woke early to relax by the lake on this sunny warm day. At the start of the trip, I bought along a bunch of back magazines that I did not have time to read during school. But until this time, I really have not had that much time to read due to keeping up with this blog - it takes a lot of time since I also do ...
Vanderhoof, British Columbia, Canada scoonpooh... in a pizza place across the road. Samantha enjoyed her drink on her lap here. The next morning we Hit the road and headed for Calgary via lake Louise. Lake Louise was spectacular and we would recommend it to anyone. It is a glacial lake with an amazing colour and nestled in a very scenic spot.
Golden, British Columbia, Canada chrisl34On the train again, and we bagged what had by now become our regular seats. However, Dave the conductor asked us to move so four monstrous squaws (plus babe in arms) could have the two groups of four across from each other. Fair enough really. Given their size, eight seats between four of them only just provided an adequate upholstery/buttock ratio. Imagine Atilla the Hun's fat ugly sister, remove her dress sense ...
Prince George, Alberta, Canada jacobandkirstyEn route to Prince George, we noticed the adherence to the Via Rail/Transport Canada rules was a tad more relaxed than on the previous train. The rules regarding booze in particular. The three women on the seats behind ours had (appropriately enough for a bear-rich wilderness, one might say), a wicker pic-er-nick basket, replete with goodies, some of which opened with a familiar popping sound. A popping sound followed by glugging. The perfunctory charade of concealing what ...
Prince George, Alberta, Canada jacobandkirstyWe caught the Skeena down to Prince George - a great train trip. Stopped off at a tiny post office in the middle of no-where, saw our first bears from the security of the train, and were treated well by all the staff. Stopped off again in a place called Smithers to stretch the aching legs, then finally arrived in PG. Place was deserted, took us an age to find somewhere for dinner which was a serious problem for me anyways.
Prince George, Alberta, Canada a_d_smithThe trip was hell. Well, the packing anyway. I had to "abandon" a lot of stuff. My dad's poor truck didn't like having my bike in the back. I realized when I got in to Fraser Lake, that I had forgotten a box of motorcycle parts. I didn't stay in FL too long. Not much to write home about. Last visit "home".
Fraser Lake, British Columbia, Canada fuzzyhatjonWelcome to my first entry of hopefully many in the years to come. I've been away from my home, Montreal since the end of June 2004. Most of that time was spent in Jasper, AB and then Victoria, BC...I'll get some of those photos and stories up one day. That's a nutsell. Now I find myself living out of hotel rooms and travelling around ...
Valemount, British Columbia, Canada db2WOLF SANCTUARY - The first stop for the day was an educational visit to the Wolf Sanctuary. Here we were able to get up close and personal with a wolf pack, learning about their habitat, social structures and the misconceptions about 'The Big Bad Wolf'.
