Historical Traveler Reviews The President Hotel - Miami Beach

      I had a great time!

      from

Only a good review!! We went to this hotel 5 years ago for the first time after it was completly renovated and we had a great time and for that reason we were going back every year after the first one.

Friendly staff, good cleaning service...not a single complaint at all.

Why it is that they are almost always sold out? They have to do something right...don't you agree?

We will keep going! If we want a 5 stars service we would go to a 5 stars hotel. This one is perfect and affordable.

      Don't bother!!!

      from

Please take my advice!!! Do not stay here. It smelled, rooms were small, furniture is old, and to top it off you have to fight with the bugs on your bed!!! And the staff!!! We asked for a manager to take care of the bug problem or change rooms atleast 3 times and we waited close to an hour to get someone... It was awefull. Never had anything like this happen ever before! We wound up checking out and going to a real hotel. It was sold and a 3 star hotel. RIGHT, SURE! More like a -3 star at best!

      Go somewhere else..

Although this hotel is suppose to serve as a clean and quaint place to shower and rest, the hotel odor is a complete turn-off, they blast bar music at 9am, and it is run down. The odor is the worst part and this is after switching rooms already, we checked out and headed to The Keys..

      The President Hotel

Clean and comfortable room. We got an internet special on this room so it was cheap but I would have felt robbed if we had paid full price as it wouldn't be worth full price !

Great location for Ocean Drive and all the bars and cafes.

There is a walkway through to the beach but I wouldn't cut through it after dark.

      We enjoyed our stay though.

If you want to face the beach stay at the sister hotel called The Penguin.

Dump - noun - President Hotel

      from

Ok - it was cheap - in the middle of everthing, but this place was a dump. When we arrived, the room that was given to us smelled like a locker room, mix of body odor and garbage and wet carpet. The room was a decent size, with a full size bed. We asked for another room - no smell, but had 2 full beds and hence the room was 75% smaller. the room had old carpet and old bed covers, yuk. The bathroom was ok - but had no outlets, had to dry my hair in the room, and move the mirror on the wall onto the spare bed because it was too high. The lobby was cute - but there was no bar, no food, so if you wanted a before bed drink, no luck. The pool was a joke, I could swin the length of it with 2 strokes, and I'm 5'0". My advice - stay at a brand name hotel in Miami Beach...at least they have standards.

      Low rates! Great Location!

      from

My boyfriend and I stayed May 26, 2004. We only payed $45 for our one night stay! PERFECT location! close to beach, boardwalk, shopping, and clubs. The lobby is cute but our room wasn't great... Kinda dumpy. IT WAS CLEAN!<--- our main priority! , but in desperate need of renovation. The hall smelled terribly of mildew but when we got in our room we couldn't smell it. The bed was squeaky. There was no view at all. The noise level was not bad. Overall, I WOULD STAY THERE AGAIN for $45, 55, or 65.. But the supposed $120 average nightly rate, ... You have got to be kidding! I'd rather pitch a tent on the beach than pay that kind of money.

      Awful!

      from

There is only one good thing about this hotel, the Loation is GREAT, and for 60 dollars a night the price was good too. Other than that I have nothing else good to say about it. I had FLEAS in my room, and I got bitten everywhere, my mom found a cockroach in the washroom and the elavator was too slow, I was afraid It was going to get stuck half the time. The blankets on the beds were disgusting, hairs and holes (they need to get some new ones, must be a cheap owner). MY ADVICE: Add a few bucks and stay somwhere normal.

      Horrible

      from

Due to the comments about the Pelican Hotel, I have changed my bookings from Pelican to the Hotel President, because ratings were better. But unfortunately the staff at the reception desk was somewhat clued to the computer and axtremely slow. We got a room next to the elevator on the Lobby level, which kept us awake all night and we had cockroaches and black bugs. I would recommend to stay away from the Hotel President !

      President is OK

      from

President Hotel was in a good location within walking distance to shops, bars, restaurants. Nothing fancy though. The brochure and on-line shows a bar in the lobby - that is never open. Brochure also shows a roof-top with tables and palm trees which makes you think that's open to everyone, but it is only accessible from one room which is higher priced than the others. The room we stayed in was adequate and the price was right compared to many others in the area.

      Was not presidential at all!

      from

I stayed at the President hotel last march for the second time. My sister and I meet in Miami every year for my birthday. The first time we stayed there it wasn't bad at all for the price. We thought that the lobby had a cute atmosphere and that it was at a reasonable price. So, we decided that we would stay there again, boy was that a mistake! Upon arriving we were greeted by a rude person at the front desk. They would only give us one key, and refused after begging to give us two. Our room had bugs crawling on the floor, our toilet ran all the time, you could feel the springs through the bed and it had a huge dip in the middle. When I called down to the front desk and explained that the room wasn't up to our standards, we were told while they were laughing, "tough luck". This also happened to be during MTV's Spring break in Miami (which we didn't know and didn't participate in because we are in our late 20's). There were drug deals and fights going on in the hallway. I saw the police in the hotel about 5 times during a weekend stay! I had a friend join us for a night and we asked for a cot at 2 in the afternoon, at 8 oclock we still hadn't recieved it. I called the front desk 7 times and they finally delivered it at 10:15 at night. I was drinking a water at the bar and they refused to let me bring it to my room!??? What in the world is the problem with this hotel. Save your sanity and stay somewhere else!!!!

... said that I was his hero. Those guys made my day.

The hostel was kind of strange, I had been looking forward to meeting some people and easing some of the lonely, but whereas all other hostels I had been in were in one big building with communal areas, this place was individual rooms and dorms off outside corridors just like a motel. It was a bit antisocial really. The staff were lovely and helpful though, I will definitely give it that. On my last night when I was busy packing ...

... feel of pubs at home. I walk the street, looking to see what is happening on a Saturday night. People are walking around, the bars are clearing out, it's barely midnight. I had heard Miami was a club town but I don't know where those clubs were. I did see some people dressed up in suites and such for the clubs I guess. I'm in shorts and thongs, I doubt I'll get in anywhere. I walk the street then turn a block in and walk back up again. Back to the hotel and ...

... either. But we weren’t incredibly hungry, so we just got some sweet potato fries to share, and a dessert. I got the pumpkin bread French toast and it was amazing.

Our room was pretty nice, with the most closet space I think I’ve ever seen in a hotel. And the bathroom was decorated in a cool art deco style. Mom went straight to bed, but I wasn’t that tired yet (because of the time change). So I stayed up a while and got a blog posted before finally turning in. ...

... and bahama mama. Then it was back to our hostel for final preparations for the long trip home and some sleep. The sleep part proved quite difficult when I was woken by a commotion outside our window (yet again!). A man had been hit by a car right outside our hostel. Neither he nor the car looked to be in a good condition. There was quite a bit of blood but he was moving so it didn't seem critical. Needless to say, it made our stay in Miami that bit more ...

We then headed to World Showcase, where there are exhibitions from 11 countries. Each area has architecture typical of the country, shops, bars, restaurants and entertainment. Some of the countries have promotional type short films, so of course we checked out O'Canada and a few others. We had lunch in Germany, crepe's in France, beer and cider in Great Britain and a tasty dinner in Morocco complete with belly dancing. And ...
