The pilgrimage continues as we head east but got slightly delayed by the Maoist rebels.
From Kushinagar we headed back to Gorakhpur to catch the train to Gaya. Got told not to try and do it on the buses - too hard and dangerous. It was only 50km to backtrack so no big deal.

... the only two things in town we want to see on this stopover. The main roads are absolutely packed full of traffic with everyone in a desperate hurry to be everywhere at once, and everyone is more important than everyone else. The result is that no one goes anywhere very fast, and most of their time is spent in traffic jams with their hands firmly on their horns. ... Ganges. The bridge swayed in the wind and under the tyres of the honking buses and lorries that rumbled over it behind us. We were getting sea-sick standing there, so we turned back and went to get a rickshaw to the centre, and ultimately to the golf club. ... someone he'd recently cutoff (even a monk got out and took a swing at him!)...riding with the driver wasn't so cool anymore. At one point we stalled and the starter wasn't engaging. We were right in the middle of the highway blocking all traffic in both directions, so people had to get off the bus and push it to bump-start it, a 60 passenger charter bus! It must have weighed 10 tones or something and here we are bump starting ...
