    Exploring Parma

    Breakfast at the hotel and a visit to the battistero and the cathedral. Found a deli and bought up big - parma ham, parma cheese, balsamic, Lambrusco and olive oil. Lunch out at La Forchetta - just below our room window! Highlight was the Aubergine parmagiana with smoked cheese. Beautiful old town... Now enjoying the local produce at home with a bottle of ...

    Left home and started our 5 hr drive at 0930 and after going over the gotthard pass we stopped for lunch in Bissone at La Palma hotel restaurant for a lovely lunch right by lake Lugano. Had an amazing pistachio crusted lamb and strawberries for dessert and very strong coffee (much needed). Sienna was very content in the car - giggling at granny making silly noises and faces.     ... for now I'll say simply that I am well, I'm making good progess and tonight I am sleeping with four other pilgrims - including a very special one - in parish accommodation in Medesano, not far out of the city of Fidenza.

    ... But it is actually quite good – spacious room and people are nice and friendly. We took the bus into the city centre and it was relatively ‘chiusod’ to start off with. However we eventually found a café for lunch and had enjoyable pizza and a tasty salad. Craig also spotted our very first sfolliatelle and it was very nice indeed – along with coffee. Yum.

    ... pleasant. No sign of earthquake damage. Lots of old buildings. Pleasant shops, laid back traffic and people on cycles. Loads of coffee bars and places to eat and lots of pedestrian only areas. Even found somewhere to park. Sat and had coffee outside municipal offices in main square and got caught up in wedding.
