Cemetry, rain and desert

... models. I have seen a few fiat 500 and even a bubble car.

Mendoza makes 75% of all the Argentinian wine so it will be a good place to go sample some... hopefully tomorrow. It also has the largest park in Argentina, which feels like a European forest. The amazing thing is it is totally artificial as were basically in the middle of a desert.
What I can report is that the Pizza and Ice cream here are both fantastic...

Our first glimpse of the Andes

... of experience eh!!

I had spied a horse that had the stance and poise of something that was thinking ‘feck sake not another day of this bloody ****’ head down a bit sullen, and a little lonely, she looked like the not so popular horse, and guess which horse I got!!! Hehe!!!

Up I got, the guide insisted that he would give us instruction when we were on the horse, that consisted of him advising us that the reins were to be held with one hand only, that ...

Two new pairs of shoes...

... to see some architecture. It was deep, and I would have really injured myself. Every street is shaded by sycamore trees, which are turning golden even as I sit here. Hopefully, I will take a white water rafting trip in Andes on Friday, with a day of touring wineries tomorrow. Saturday, I plan to head over the Andes to Santiago, Chile. If anyone has recommendations for a Malbec that I need to try, send it along. Thanks for reading!

And onto Mendoza we go... Well on I go really, and after what ended up stretching out to a fifteen hour bus ride (thank god for paying the extra for cama seats so i did sleep a little), I did eventually make it. However, getting from the bus station to the hostel is a whole other story... Rather than being dropped off at the actual bus terminal, we had instead stopped a five minute walk down the road, and with such limited spanish skills I was unable to ask why (well i can ...

Mendoza, wine capital of Argentina

... begon!

... Syrah and Pinot Noir wines. After some great tips from travelers we met in Southern Argentina earlier in the trip (thanks Nick and Najeebi!), we knew a great area to tour by bike. We visited a great wine museum, vineyards, local chocolate houses and olive oil factories ...

... last day in Mendoza we mosied on over to the bus station and hopped on a bus over to Santiago Chile. It was a day bus trip which was great since we got to see the spectacular views through the Andes on the pass into Chile. * not to be totally racist, but we´ve discovered that all Argentinians are genuinely friendly and helpful people. Every interaction we´ve had so far with locals has been very pleasant. It´s a bit different from the states... :)

... wine district, rented bikes and went to wineries, a chocolate factory and an olive oil factory. All very interesting and delicious. This is the main wine region of Argentina. It looked a lot more like Niagara than any other place we've been. They ahd maples and birches but also nice mountains. We camped for the 1st time that night then back on the bus.

Bed bug nightmares, Part II

... was no little town, but a rather large city. The bus station alone was the size of some of the smaller towns we'd visited on this trip and was heaving with people and traffic. Not being exactly sure how far our hostel was from the bus station we grabbed a taxi and made our way to the hostel where we'd made a reservation for a few nights. The hostel turned out to be only a few blocks away and we probable could have walked the distance in about 15 minutes. We checked in ...

... Pffew that was close. The bus was great. You could lie down completely like in a bed. They did a game of bingo (winner wins a bottle of wine). We had a big meal and a glass of champagne!! At around 5am, the bus broke down. Some people were transferred to another bus. We could not be bothered, so decided to stay and slept some more and waited for someone to fix it. We were only two hours late.

Arriving in Medoza, we strolled ...
