    Another walled city - Dinan

It is tempting to be blasé about visiting another walled city. But arriving mid afternoon gave us the opportunity to walk through the ancient streets and down an improbably steep lane to the river running through the bottom of the typically picturesque valley, with a viaduct and the walls dominating the skyline.

The shops were a mix of small eateries, pharmacy, the usual tourist souvenir places and something different, Dinan is the home of artists and artisans. As we ...

Off to Dinard, opposite St Malo. I think we came here on a childhood holiday but I do not recognise anything. Tide right out so a good couple of beach walks. The dogs go mad whenever we get on a beach. King very slow now so goes mad for a few seconds then has to rest before he can go mad again. Poor old ...

Lovely friends Anne and David that we met in Greece, told us that this was a great place to stay. They are right. It is a gorgeous, mostly car free, medieval port on the River Rance with the walled town on the hill above. We are at the top of the steepest cobbled street, Rue Jerzual which climbs from the ...

... for 4 tarts to go.
Out on the Cape. Frehel the views were astonishing. The high cliffs are a rose coloured granite and the tops are covered with heather, which us still blooming. The English Chanel is calm today and apparently warn, as many people are swimming.
Back in Saint Malo we went to a roof top bar for a drink before dinner at a nearby Brasserie.
There are pictures of the Cape, the village of Frehel and sausage buying in the market.
    All the best

... slowly down the hill and have lunch outside in the courtyard, Cath and rich hire bikes for the afternoon and head off for a ride along the river. A wrong turn sees them walking up a steep slope and then carrying their bikes up a flight of steps. Back to the port where, they had a more leisurely ride along the other bank. David and I just had a stroll along the river. Another lovely dinner in one of the cafés along the ...
