We were kicked off our train at the Italian border due to a train worker strike in France. The Cannes Festival was starting the next day and the rail workers obviously took advantage of the pressure of the situation to go on strike for a day. The inconvenience meant we arrived very late with no where to stay and every taxi charging ridiculously high rates (if you could find one) to take you anywhere. I'm not sure if this negative start tainted our opinion of this city but overall we could hav...

After brekkie it was onto Menton which is a lovely little town just before the Italian border. Menton is a much more down to earth place than its neighbours and more our scene. We found a park right on the beach and went for a wander and took in sum much needed sun. Next stop Italia!!
Menton, Provence, France darrenhough74Up early as it was a spectacular sunrise - full of pinks and organges. We wanted to hit McWifi before we entered Italy but we did not find one until later in the day in Menton. Before that we drove the coast road through Nice and Monte Carlo, both concrete ...
Monte-Carlo, Monaco darrenhough74... wine bottle and then we thought they were off on the trail, but no they got in the car and drove on!
At the end of the gorge we joined the road towards Cannes, which was route Napoleon, orginially created by him as a pass through the mountains...very windy. Our destination for the evening was Grasse where we found a good park overlooking the city lights and our first view of the Med.
Grasse, Provence, France darrenhough74Cannes is not as glamrous as we thought it would be, it still has all the fancy smancy stores along the beach, but there were definitely no red carpets rolled out when we were there. We did a day trip to St-Tropez, its was the end of a hge sailing competitiona and tons of ...
Cannes, Provence, France sofenjon... of millionaires and billionaires.

The tour of the Royal Palace, where Prince Albert currently resides, offered an interesting and historical view of the life of the Grimaldi family. Later, we enjoyed some leisure time walking around the Palace Square, through the lanes and streets of Monaco-Ville. At 3pm sharp, we watched the Changing of the Guard in front of the Royal Palace.

Back at the ...
Monte-Carlo, Monaco ricknelsie... is black, btw) and their debauchery of festivities. We ended up shotgunning smirnoff ices. They showed you this technique where we put a straw in it for the air and just throw it sloppily into your throat as quick as possible and try to spill a little on your shirt in the process. It was fun. We decided to hit up Wayne's and just screwed around, buynig cheap alcohol to avoid paying 6 euros a drink. Good idea. Upon leaving the supermarket and slamming drinks, it was ...
Nice, Provence, France kciarnie... the last few weeks in the north. We were very keen to get some washing done and luckily Hotel Felix has a laundry service. The staff at Hotel Felix are very friendly and the hotel itself is quite plain but nice. Our room was on the third floor again with no lift (again, sorry Leanne) but it overlooked the pedestrian street below, rue Massena which we thought was a plus until it came time to sleep and Messiuer entertainer came out at 9:15pm every night to play for the ...
Nice, Provence, France cadnams... from the ocean in a tuxedo, buuut my hopes were in vain. Anyway. When we first got to Montecarlo, we went on a guided tour lead by a little squeaky woman (she literally made squeaking noises after every few words, I don't know what her deal was.) We saw the "changing of the guards" at the Prince's Palace, walked through a cathedral, and enjoyed the views of fancy high-rise buildings lining the coast. I wish we could have spent a little more time there, but we had to fit ...
Nice, Provence, France hahn105... a huge party city. It was difficult to sleep through the night because of all the loud , naked ,drunk people. All was well though, and i was safe with my travel buddies. They took the first train out to Italy, and i took the first train to Paris, so that i could head for Berlin.
