Birthday in Versailles, France

... and took a straight shot out to Versailles.  The ride took us nine stops and about 25 minutes. That was pretty easy.   Durning the short 20-minute walk from the train station, we stopped at a market to purchase lunch -- French bread, jambo (ham), cheese and water. We have found this to be a very economical way to eat lunch when we're on the move and don't want to spend the time sitting in a restaurant. Just ...

... juice. The orange juice had pulp in it (I don't like pulpy orange juice), and the hot chocolate was good. The only problem was that we were going 180 miles per hour so it was a bit challenging to drink. When we got to Paris our driver took us to the hotel, and that was when I realized we were in Paris. Do you know how? Everyone was speaking French, and I take French, but this was where you learn to speak French from when you're a baby ...

We'll always have Paris...

... grand residential buildings, wide tree-lined boulevards, and elegant boutiques. It was also the area that Hemingway, Fitzgerald and countless other authors, artists, jazz musicians and philosophers of the last century frequented, leading edge contributors to the art and philosophy of the twentieth century. I didn't have any such lofty ambitions on Monday morning, but I was hungry when I peeked out of Sevres-Babylone station. I spotted a nice little café on the wide corner ...

Dempsey's in Paris (by Nick)

... matter (stuff for free isn't bad at all). Going to the top was something all of us wanted to do. So after lunch, very slowly, we headed for the top. The view from the top was absolutely spectacular. You could see everything there was to see in all of Paris. Once back on firm ground we decided to go for a river cruise. Actually we'd already booked it with the tourism agency. This time we saw everything from the water of ...

The Crash

So we discovered something: We discovered that bread creates alot of highs and a lot of lows. We have been living on bread for a few days now. We wake up, have a free meal at the hostel ( of bread, corn flakes and orange juice) then around noon havez yet another bread based meal. Almost everyday around 3 both Kristen and I are dead tired and feel as though all energy has been sucked out of us. Wei figured out that this is attributed to bread: It is refered to as the bread ...

Express train to Paris!

... So sad to think of the weary souls who spent their final days on this earth awaiting such a fate. Nearby was the Sainte Chappelle church, built in 1248 for King Louis IX. We waited in line for 20 minutes or so in order to go inside and see the purportedly awesomely beautiful stained glass. There are 15 windows of stained glass, with more than 1,100 different (mostly biblical) scenes. It is perhaps some of the most beautiful ...

... for breaky! The young girl in the tourist office was so friendly and so excited to be able to practice her English. We walked around the town and took in all the streets and the sites that she told us to see. We were not sure what to do about getting Misty fixed, whether we should rely on getting a message across to them through Fraenzi on the phone or to just go there ourselves and try and sort out the issue. We decided it would be easier to try and get there and show them what we ...

Wednesday 19/07/06 Day 4: After three days of working our way up to it, we knew that this would be the day. Today we would visit the Louvre. We started the day off on a holier note, with Saint Chapelle, which the french pronounce 'San Shappelle'. Have you ever imagined what it would look like if the bible were written as a cartoon? Now imagine the cartoon on stained glass windows towering five floors above you. The chapel has an amazingly airy feel to it ...

Trip with Missy

... of her stay went quickly. During the days we took care of the sights, but socially, we met Steve many times to go out to bars. Steve and Cedrick were battling over Missy her entire stay; Mary and I found this to be amusing, however I can understand why she felt a little uncomfortable with the competition. She's crazy about another guy and didn't need all the pressure-but she was a good sport about it and got her "French" kiss. You go gurl! Me on the other hand, did not get ...
