... quite a few little alleys that were built so the aristocrats could get from their villas to the courtyards and streets. The tall townhouses have the same sort of coloured facades that the ones in Florence had, but they all had the French style loft windows that we love (that remind us of the first loft apartment we stayed at in the Marais in Paris). The eastern side of the lake was even better. The town of Aix Les Bains is right on the lake, with a nice small town, and walks right along the lake - very pretty, Had a look around here for a while. Ifwe were coming back, i would definitely head to this town to stay, Nice location, great restaurants, and lots to do ...

It was really interesting and probably one of the finest we have seen. It is surrounded by water, lake Geneva being the main water source. This Castle was first built in the 11th century. Lord Byron was inspired here to write The Prisoner of Chillon about Francois Bonivard who was imprisoned here for 7 ...

... dinner at a nice little italian restaurant along the canal.

What a great 1st day!

Monday 9/15 - was our big "around town" sightseeing day. After a nice breakfast at the hotel, we took a walk along the lakefront park, explored the old and the new Annecy and visited some of the sights recommended in Rick's guidebook. On the way back to the hotel we bought ...
