... Well, since this is technically a "third-world development" project, it has come under a little heat by campus critics. (Trust me, I have done my homework, and our project is justified, I even took the project to my "Anthropology of Development" course and asked them to rip it apart, and it still came out justified.) But, I have decided to frame my paper as justifying building the school in the framework of human rights and ...
Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland chelseyineurope... crisis started, Bernard Madoff, and banking secrecy. We talked of our personal stories as Christians and the development of our church association in Switzerland. We discussed the merits of the Swiss soldier, the history of the Swiss army and mercenaries, how closely the cantons of Geneva and Vaux are ethnically connected to France. How Napoleon saved Geneva from Berne but then annexed it. We went on to the adventures of traveling in Africa, and corruption ...
Trélex, Vaud, Switzerland joelmeeker... up as a B&B. They very kindly make a room available for me when I'm in the region. I got settled in and rested a bit. And around 4:00 we took their dog Loupi (from lupus or loup, Latin and French respectively for wolf) for a walk through the vinyards and farm fields near their house. It was a cool but pleasant and clear evening. Loupi ran through the fields, dug for rodents, and had to be called back from chasing the horses and riders we encountered. In spite of the noise we ...
Trélex, Vaud, Switzerland joelmeeker... for my congested ears and throat. I noted that none were antibiotics and again inquired about obtaining a prescription for one. He said no, I didn't need that. So off I went to pay my bill. Yes, that's right.. my bill. Seems socialized medicine is not free as Michael Moore would have you all believe. My visit cost $200. From there I called a cab and off I went to the 24 hr. pharmacy and was separated from another $100.

Ferney-Voltaire, Rhône-Alpes, France traceybelle... the
combination is difficult to beat. Paris, the south of France, wine
regions, Normandy and many others I have yet to visit have slowly
changed my view of France.

I think I can still answer that
Switzerland is still my favorite, although France is tugging at my
sleeve and is a very close second.

Thanks for traveling and thanks for the
comments that some of you have sent me. I will answer each of them
as I get settled in back home.

Annecy, Rhône-Alpes, France nedk... a soccer game, and we all laughed and said we were Canadian, so the answer is no. We finished the night in an insanely smoky bar, we're too pooped to keep partying, so we all retreated to our quarters.

http://picasaweb.googl e.com/Jonny.D.Lawrence/9AroundTheWorldG eneva?authkey=Gv1sRgCLOSsZ2bopnx6wE& ;feat=directlink
Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland sofenjonWe sadly left Chamonix and vowed to return there in the winter, and drove to Annecy. Annecy was kind of a repeat of Prague, beautiful old city, on the water, with canals... we were kind of sick of that scene by then. They are applying to have the 2018 Olympics there, with the ski events at Mont Blanc. It would be a nice venue for sure.
Annecy, Rhône-Alpes, France sofenjon... grinning broadly and holding up a special sign just for me... My internal clock is still a bit off - somewhere between Canadian and Swiss time. However we have still managed to pack a bit in. Tony has been my official guide for the last two days whilst Julie-Anne has been working. I have had a full orientation to the local train system, including purchasing tickets.Today we swept ...
Geneva, Switzerland suily... we were treated to a fabulous tour and wine tasting at the "Vincent Chappuis & Fils" winery by our host, Christophe Chappuis. We had a nice tour of the wine cellar where some of the oak barrels are more than 300 years old! In the tasting room we saw a genealogy chart on the wall that showed this family's ancestral line back to the 1300's!!!! We also learned that monks in the 1300's originally terraced the hills around this region as well as planting many of the vines. Later we ...
