Settling in

Greetings, Cherubs.

It is now day 6 in sunny England, and I am staying with my aunt at Henham. For those of you who don't know where that is, the nearest major town is Bishop’s Stortford. Glad to have cleared that up…

It is a rambling old farm house, and when I say rambling, I mean it in every possible application of the word. The house itself is a little lopsided, and has corridors that seem to loop on themselves, go nowhere, or trip one over with sudden ...

Braintree, England

So after 6 months away and visiting 8 different countries, we have now arrived, reluctantly, back in England. Although its not as cold as we were expecting, which is a bonus!

We have had a fantastic time and visited some amazing places, and we are now hoping that reality doesn't hit us too hard!

Hope that you have enjoyed our blog and will probably see most of you shortly.

Preparation

... the morning. We still haven't finalised our hotel in Delhi, but we're not panicking! Apparently the booking arrangements will only be finalised on Wednesday. Still the hotel gets excellent reviews and is a good price, so we want to stay there if we can.

We've got our netbook working now (phew), so our next post will be from India.

... cousin Elliot, his fiancee Nicole and their little 8 month old baby Isla came to visit. The girl has personality! After a play we were off to the Green Man for dinner - Uncle Alan joined us again. We had lovely views of the countryside and fireworks (Guy Fawkes seems to drag out for a few days!). Then back home to Hudsons Lodge for an early night - to Paris tomorrow!

Only a week to go!

... up by my cousin Elliot after some initial issues - Josh and I had hoped to hire a car for a couple of days, however due to lack of credit card we couldn't. Elliot kindly swung past Jim and Cath's to pick up all our 'other stuff' and then to Aunty Sue's house in the country - seriously !

Another country down - just Paris to go on Sunday morning. I can't believe we will be home in a week - the much feared packing will have to begin soon!

Introducing ourselves

... old and she is currently doing her PhD in Law in the University of Cambridge. She has studied law in various places around Europe, trying to find the perfect place to settle down, without success though. Both her looks and her hyper-energetic attitude justify the resemblance to a meerkat (or suricata http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meerkat), you know, that little creature called Timon in Lion King! Yes, she can be very loud and ...

UYWAY

Hello Everyone! As some of you might remember, when I was in Peru, I wrote about an organisation called 'Uyway'. Now, Uyway has been founded by Olga, one of the ladies who taught in the kindergaten I worked in, Olga has invested a lot of her own money to build a school in the mountains surrounding Cusco, in order to teach the mountain children: giving them the free education that the government fails to ...

The Boat Race, Cambridge, and Financial trouble

... is about 1 second, so they were close). At this point, I was confident that Cambridge was going to pull it out, having moved up on Oxford while Oxford was supposed to be gaining their bend advantage. By the time the Hammersmith bend was over, Cambridge was up a length on Oxford and looked comfortably in the lead, while Oxford was still going crazy just trying to keep themselves in the race. The blur of the race was due to 1) having drunk a significant amount of beer, and 2) just ...

Time to say goodbye

Dear friends, Here I am at the end of my adventure. I returned to Cambridge a week ago. But before realizing I am back, before seeing my friends and sink a few tinnies at the Blue, I have to pack again. This Friday, the 29th of September, I leave England for good. As most of you know, I am returning to Greece to take up a new post in Ioannina. Needless to say I never thought I would be so unhappy leaving England. Anyway, as this blog is not about mourning ...

The end - reflections

... dorm until Rome and had few genuine local meals before then either. With the confidence of continue travelling came the meeting of more fellow travellers and the broadening of experience, but also the thrill of seeing everything new was replaced somewhat by a high-travel routine involving living out of a backpack and often having no idea where I was going until I reached the train station, and sometimes not even until I was on the train. I made well over 35 train rides, an ...
