The bathhouse had both indoor and outdoor sections, with the outdoor baths surrounded by bamboo that swayed in the cool evening breeze, and a sauna with a cold plunge pool.

As Fumito had been on call the night before, he didn't actually join us in the baths but left us there and we were picked up by Tsuneto an hour later – a little like being dropped off at the shops by your Dad and being told to wait for your Grandad to pick you up!

WE DID: - visited Matsuyama-jo (castle), using the chairlift (no safety bar!) to get up and down the hill. - took the tram to Dogo Onsen where we booked in to Dogo Onsen Honkan baths with a private lounging room, yukata hire and imperial bath etc - walked through Dogo-koen (park). - walked to and around Ishite-ji (temple) - played in the arcade in Okaido. - went for a drink in bar Grace ...

WE DID: - Train from Hiroshima - Okayama - Matsuyama. - Bike ride (free hotel bikes) around Shiroyama Park - at the base of Matsuyama-jo. - pottered through the Okaido shopping district, visiting the amusement area (quick go at Super Mario Cart!)
