    Today was our first (and only) day without cycling. After a late breakfast we set about the job of sight seeing in Ely. It is a lovely city with much to explore and we wiled away most of the day walking about the city and paying homage at Cromwell's House and also visiting the Ely museum.

    ... Today the banks holding the water are some 5 metres above the surrounding countryside.

    From about the midway point of the ride we were able to see Ely cathedral in the distance, some 15-20 miles away. At least it gave us a view of pour ed point even though it didn't seem to be getting any closer for quite a while. The last pat of the journey meant the we needed to head back south eastwards across the fens to Ely, right into the teeth ...

    ... decide to grab a few drinks from Tesco, and order in a delivery from the highly recommended Chinee Takeaway - big mistake... Monday July 15. Quick drive through Bath to see the Circus, on to the magnificent Royal Crescent, then off on the road to Lynton, with a scenic detour through the Cheddar Gorge, and a brief stop at Cheddar for a taste of some real cheddar, bought a piece of vintage and a mouse knife, followed by a sip of "leg bender" cider - phew! Back on the road, detour ...

    ... at 9:30 and met a very cheery Steve Prior who picked us up and took us to the classroom! It was a very relaxed atmosphere from the start, Claire and Sam are joining us on the IDC and Sams partner Jim participated in the course but can't attend the IDC. After some introductions and refreshments it was time for a break!

    ... expecting to go over the top. Fortunately i am not expecting to be going into anywhere near the kind of danger that he was exposed to, and any kind of anxiety i do get shouldn't be so easily exposed in my handwriting.
