    ... thought came to me as we began cruising today (Tuesday). We had moored near a lock the night before and so I walked up to the lock to get it ready for Hazel to drive into. The lock was in our favour so I only had to push open the lock gates. It was then that I realised I had forgotten the anti vandal key that is necessary for operating the locks on the Erewash Canal. Hazel constantly has to remind me to get things ready and prepared before I start a task. ...

    Wednesday 3rd - Birstall

    If you're reading this Rod, yes, the stretch of river heading north out of Leicester was a bit dreary in parts but was very soon erased from our memory upon our arrival at Thurmaston Lock when we discovered Watermead Country Park.

    Sitting just five miles north of Leicester, Watermead Country Park is a 140 hectare green oasis. It is a haven for wildlife and a peaceful stretch of countryside.

    ... in the city centre so we took the opportunity to do a walk around the CBD area admiring the old buildings which are interspersed amongst very modern buildings which are in complete contrast to each other. Obviously, we also took the time to pursue our new hobby of geocaching and went on a couple of hunts.
