Day Three

There is no question that today solidified Edinburgh in my mind as one of the most beautiful and intriguing cities that I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Our day began with breakfast at 8:30 am. The hotel breakfast was extraordinary. Hot meal options included fried eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, baked beans, and …

After a 4 hour drive from Auchenmalg, we reached Edinburgh very late on Sunday night. We stayed at the Premier Inn in Market St, and spent the next day catching up on chores: washing and other domestic tasks and emailing ahead to book accommodation in France and contacting home. The first day was unremarkable, except for an experience walking …

The southwest corner of Scotland would have to be my favourite part of the world that we have seen on this trip so far. The range of traditional farming lands, natural beauty, history and facilities for tourists is without peer. Having sampled the honeymoon suite at Neptune's Rest Guest House at Stranraer, we sallied forth to find some sites of …

Day 12 starts in a unfamiliar way for us. It is raining! This is the first time it has rained since we arrived but it is not cold.

First up today is a visit to Edinburgh Castle. This historic castle sits like a colossus looking over the city of Edinburgh. It is huge in size and huge in stature and dominates the Edinburgh skyline. It is easily the most iconic tourist attraction in Scotland with over 1.4 million visitors each ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Premier Inn Edinburgh City Centre - Haymarket

    Excellent value

    from

After arriving in Edinburgh late in the evening with no accommodation booked we stumbled across this hotel by accident. Got a big, family room at a very good rate. Bed were very comfortable, linen clean and crisp, large bathroom with bathtub (great if you are travelling with children as were were). The room was simply decorated but everything was quite new and very clean. Had a deal that included a full buffet breakfast which was wonderul. For a chain hotel this is difficult to beat - friendly staff, well-priced accommodation in a fairly central location.

    Great value

    from

Decided to finally visit my capital cities castle and various other sights. After much trawling thru websites reading reviews and checking prices and availability on many places i am glad to say i chose this hotel. Not even a 5 minute walk from haymarket train station and 5 - 10 mins from princes street, this hotel is ideally located and is also cheaper than many of the rest. The rooms are fresh and clean, comfy beds, en suite facilities just what you need and the restaurant is also pretty good. After an afternoons wlaking around the sites we headed back for a shower to freshen up and head out for an evening meal and to visit some pubs. We had a quick look at the hotel menu and decided just to eat there. We were not disappointed although the apple crumble was not what my wife or I expected it to be, I think the chef was maybe trying to be different. This I must admit he was successful in doing but if you like traditional apple crumble then don`t order this. Would I recommend this hotel to friends and family?? I certainly would and if back in edinburgh I know where I will be looking to stay.

    Good location, but no AC

    from

I stayed here for 4 nights in July in a triple room with two teenagers and found the location convenient to downtown. The weather was hot for Edinburgh, so the lack of AC caused some discomfort. If we slept with the windows open, we were disturbed by rowdy patrons leaving Diane's Pool Hall across the street during early morning hours. We thought the breakfast buffet was overpriced and mediocre. Dinner was better, but we preferred McKirdys Steakhouse nearby. Best bet for breakfast and lunch is Jasper's around the corner with fresh juices and made to order items. It's an easy walk to Haymarket Station to access trains and buses.

    Excellent hotel

    from

Just a quick note to let people know that this is an excellent hotel. Its location is good within walking distance to the Castle and major sites and it is also about 400 yards from the Haymarket rail station where you get numerous trains to Waverly station if you don't fancy the walk. Alot of buses also go from the Haymarket that you can use to get to Prices street.

The rooms are large and clean and the staff are very friendly. The price per room per night is also excellent.

    Good value for money

    from

Went to Edinburgh for the Easter holidays with wife and small child. First we had booked with a guesthouse that was costing us 90 pounds per night. Then we chanced upon a room available with this hotel and grabbed the opportunity to book it at the rate of 59 pounds per night. Location was excellent since it was very near to the Haymarket station and we went there by train. The family room provided to us was spacious and clean. The bathroom was of adequate size and clean with many towels. There were tea/coffee making facilities in the room which proved to be useful. Everyday the room was cleaned and fresh towels were provided. However the bed linens were not changed and tea/coffee maker was not cleaned everyday. The extra bed for my kid was quite big. There was some problem with the temperature control but it did not prove to be so much of an inconvenience. We did not eat in its restuarant as it was a bit expensive and had very few choices for vegetarians. The reception staff were friendly and helpful in providing us with the required information. There was left luggage facility at the hotel and since we had our train later in the afternoon this was an added advantage as this was free of charge whereas the same facility at the station would had cost us 3.50 pounds per piece. The location was good as it was few minutes walk away from the Princes street and the Castle. There was a Sainsbury nearby which was also good. We had a pleasant stay there and would definitely recommend it to all.

I have just returned from a weekend in Edinburgh, having spent four days at the Premier Travel Inn. I didn't have massive expectations as the rate was fairly cheap for Edinburgh but I was greatly impressed by the high standard throughout.

    Great location, even better rate

    from

After spending countless hours on looking for lodging in Edinburgh, we decided on the travel inn for an affordable stay outside castle country. The rooms were quiet and comfortable with adequate bathroom facilities. The location was easily accessible to the castle and shopping district (walk ~15 minutes to castle entrance). Besides, the public bus system was cheap and convenient to transport you across the city to Holyroodhouse and back. Downstairs was a restaurant with a buffet breakfast available (hot/cold) for a reasonable price. Parking was available in the rear for 6 pounds/24 hours.

    Convenient Location

    from

The Travel Inn was in walking distance to the castle at the start of the Royal Mile and the train station. We spent the day sightseeing and only came back to the Inn to sleep. I would stay here again.

Great hotel for this price range

    from

Stayed at hotel in June 2004 for 2 nights. Overall, the experience was very good. The prices aren't bad (see their web site at -----------------). Hotel is a rather long walk from the main tourist attractions and the train station, so you might want to consider using taxis or buses. Hotel staff were quite busy (for good reason), but friendly and helpful. Got the impression that mostly UK folks stay in Travel Inns (this is a good thing). Hotel, rooms, bathrooms, etc all were kept very clean. Would definitely stay in this hotel again. My wife and I both thought the city of Edinburgh was surprisingly beautiful. Do to abundance of good food in other restaurants in the city center, didn't try hotel restaurant. Aside from being a bit too far to walk from everything for tired tourist feet, you won't regret staying at this hotel. I don't think Travel Inns offer discounts, so you might as well book online through their web site. I did this for this stay in Edinburgh and a stay in London without issue or complaint. True non-smoking rooms are available.

We stayed at the Travel Inn on Morrison Street in Edinburgh both times we went to Edinburgh. The room was pleasant and clean, the service was good. We were comfortable and especially in love with the heated towel bar in the bath.

This hotel in located withing walking distance of everything in the heart of Edinburgh and a block away from the bus station.

We will stay there again on our next trip.
