Almaty, Kazakhstan: Our Last Stan

A travel blog entry by samber

This is a top pick!

Another day, another Stan. Which also means another death defying shared taxi or mini bus journey. Picking up our passports and Kazakh VISA was no problem so at least our day started off on the right food. We then headed straight to the bus/taxi depot. Had to wait about 45 min until we had enough people on board to go but once we were on the road it was smooth sailing. There was also a young Russian family that 'babied' us a bit. ...

The marshrutka dropped us a bus-station that is around 5kms outside the city and while there appeared to be several buses and a trolley bus plying on the street, evidently none went directly to where ...
