    ... locked suitcases from the strategic location near the ticket checkers (who by this time are smiling).

    And the rest, as they say, is history. Gulnara had a TCO (TengizChevrOil) driver and van to take us from the airport to beautiful downtown Atyrau. Seriously! Our impression of Atyrau transformed as we left the overcrowded third world environment of the airport, and entered an upscale fashionable first world city environment. Even traffic lights!

A long table stretching to the altar was covered with bread and cakes, often wrapped in plastic, and implanted with candles. As the candles burned, members of the congregation continued to extinguish them when they got too close to the plastic.     ... much wind but still really, really cold. I even put my fleecy on under the jacket and over the merino long sleeved top i basically have lived in since we arrived to Mongolia.
