    ... We climbed quite steeply up a windy road with hairpin bends, to our first stop, the village of Makrinitsa 4700 feet above sea level on the side of Mt Pelion. In the village square is a plane tree which dominates the Taverna (Tabepna Greek spelling) and is around 500 years old.We sat and had coffee and local cake which was complementary, then a walk around the village and viewed a nice little church which would hold about 20 people.     ... It was perhaps the best eggplant salad I have had for years! (€4.00 each)

    The marinated in garlic, parsley lime and tomato Anchovy appetizer was very tasty as well. I used a pinch of sea salt to balance the taste because Anchovy was so fresh as if it popped out of the sea a few minutes earlier. (€4.50)
