... all reports, the optional tour wasn't great so we didn't miss much anyway! We tried to go on Tram 28 but there was a 2-hour queue to get on! So we caught a different tram to the top of the hill and saw St George Castle. We were with Glynnis and Viv, and they struggled to climb to the entrance! Although the views were lovely, the entrance fees probably didn't justify what there was to offer...lots of brick walls and empty spaces! We also saw the ...

... one hour less sleep !

Friday 12 Sep 14 – Dawn today was amazing. We are on a mill pond sea as we are rounding the SW corner of Spain and turning left into the Mediterranean. We are due to pass Gibraltar at 6pm this evening.

Another relaxing sea day before reaching Almeria in Spain tomorrow morning at 6am.
A relaxing day spent reading, writing and eating ! Went to a couple of port destination ...

... the Portugese maritime explorers, such Vasco de Gama and Ferdinand Magellan, on the river at Belem (a must do day trip from the city centre).  It is huge sandstone edifice, shaped like the prow of a ship, jutting out to the water.  Along each side are carved the images of the explorers and their patron kings and queens, lead at the front by Henry the Navigator,  If you are interested you can Google Padrao dos Descobrimentos.  The viewpoint from the top ...

... bit worse for wear but had a walking tour so had to force ourselves out of bed and put our tourist hats on. Fighting some pretty bad hangovers and very sleepy bodies we strolled the streets and learnt about the history and culture of Lisbon and Portugal. After the tour Ange and I found a lovely little bar with beanbags that overlooked and incredible view of the city, what better way to cure a hangover than hair of the dog?! Margarita please! ...

We then took tram back 15e to commercio square. Ate in augusta street – wifi and good food – sangriel with grilled sardine and ice cream – 6 varieties of walls magnum ice cream. Walked along the blocks back to chiadia and barrio alto. Trouble finding sa roque church. Hidden street but ...
