He had to buy the tickets online using a credit card - not ideal.
He was unable to print off the tickets.....we'd have a printer in our hand luggage?
We had to be at the station 20 min ahead of the scheduled departure. Hate it.
It was raining, and the train was late. Hate it even more.

However, the train did arrive, was warm, with armchair seats and a table. Things were looking up.
