... for our supervan to come.
Saturday 13th June. We caught the shuttle bus and armed with our prepaid Berlin card giving us transport free there in and back) we passed through cute Potsdam and caught the train to Berlin which took about 40 mins to get there. Arriving at the city centre we did our usual walking tour armed with a map. We saw the remnants of the wall and Brandenburg Gate now unified as it was on the east side before the wall came down. Deciding to ...
... old East Berlin, the shops and restaurants become smarter and posher and more and more expensive, culminating in the corner of FriedrichStrasse and Unter den Linden, where the Ferrari shop is over the road from the dealer showing off Bentleys and a Bugatti Veyron in his window. Like so many of the former Iron Curtain countries, it seems that some of Germany has made a lot of money out of re ...
Potsdam, Brandenburg, Germany oldagetraveller... of the area from its residents. I make it to the brandenburg gate, and it is huge. I find out that the Gate constitutes the monumental termination of Unter den Linden and is a former city gate and one of the main symbols of Berlin I decided to stop for lunch at a nice cafe around the area and the head back to the hostel to end the day

Berlin, Germany naumowicz... With a lot of detailed designs on the ceilings. We also visited the The Russian Colony Alexandrowka. The colony was created 1826-27 and former members of a Russian soldier's choir were the first inhabitants of these buildings. The stop at Krongut Bornstedt was quite ...
Potsdam, Germany sfrtw... tried to figure out a way to the hotel. We knew we could take the S-Bahn, so we went to information to ask where we should go. Turns out, we had to take a bus first. I forgot something! When we landed, we had to take another bus to the terminal, which was about 2 feet away. As soon as the bus moved, it stopped. I think the back of the bus ended up where the front started from. Back to getting to the hotel. We found the bus easily enough and where we had to get ...
Berlin, Germany suetravels... footstep and voice outside my door, and for a good way down the hall (the boards groan horrifically). However, they do have wireless and Herr Hoss knows I need to find another room and stands over me while I boot up the PC- without a 'bye your leave' he reaches over me to configure the wireless connection, hits buttons I cannot see, with a result that my pc cannot access the wireless system. I then spend almost an hour trying to reset the computer without luck. So I cannot check if ...

Berlin, Germany englishanddrunk... the Beer Stein shop where we were shown how they make beer steins. They had some really amazing steins, even an elaborate one with a piece of the Berlin wall mounted to the top (how cool is that?!) We went a bit mental in that shop, and bought up big!! When the salesman told me the price, I practiced my German and said 'Shizan'! He laughed at me whilst Matt apologised, saying that it ...
Rhine Valley, Germany katspoons... the city. There were plenty of walking tours, bus tours and even river cruises we could have gone on but we just didn't feel like doing much at all. About the only thing we did do was finally having some apple strudel. Fee had been patiently waiting two weeks to have strudel but whenever we saw it we were full. So we decided to have it for lunch. And it was delightful. In the afternoon I decided to go for an 8km jog along the Moselle River. I hadn't been running much and ...
