Turkish sailing

A travel blog entry by robbiej on Jul 28, 2015

We got an unexpected surprise when we reached Fethiye. We got to our hostel and when to the terrace bar for a drink, overlooking the bay. Within a minute of sitting down and ordering a drink, I looked over the rail and sore our 2 friends from Canberra who we did our tour of Egypt with! We knew they were in turkey but we were planning on catching up in Istanbul. It was a happy accident that we bumped into them about 1200 kilometers away! We had ...

"the lycian way" is a 500 km hiking trail ...

My dad and I are relatively strong swimmers so decided to swim out to a solitary rock that appeared to emerge from the sea about 200m out from the beach, like a centrepiece in the bay. The water was warm but refreshing and I couldn't help looking around me as we swam - it was unbelievable how beautiful the place was. We also looked beneath the water with snorkels to look for any ...

... we would like to back to Fethiye. So, he dropped us off in a tiny village and said "Return ticket? Return to here. The get off....then cost you 5 lira to get to Fethiye". I was mad...but then we both saw the humour. He got his money...we got a good story. To top that off we met a delightful old couple (probably our age) waiting for the same dolmas. He was very proud of the chainsaw he was carrying. He tried to explain to me what it was. When I ...
