WEEK FIFTY ONE, PARTIES, PARADISE, POP IDOL!

... along side the bus interrupt the darkness. The only time I saw light on the 4 hour journey was when we arrived at Rio and the lights from the ships on the sea bobbed on the waves like floating candles and the lone bulbs of the huts in the favelas lit up the surrounding hills like the national grid! This whole scene of Rio at night is just magical and fairytale like even though it couldn't be further from the truth! When I got to Rio bus station I was informed that I had just ...

... adopted the custom of the more forward men in Brazil who would grab you by the wrist and insist you kiss them. Some even try without your go-ahead (in which case, placing your hand over your mouth does wonders). So it was quite funny when we saw Pizza (as we called him.. possibly due to the fact that it was tatooed across his tummy in letters 5cm high) kissing his 12th lady of the night... as on closer inspection she had no bosom. After about 10mins of this passionate kissing it ...

... the centre, which is really nice and colourful, lots of old houses and steep, paving stone streets. There is lots of african art and handicrafts they sell and of course the typical tourist stuff as well. The centre and the harbour are connected with some elevators, which descend so fast that it really troubles the stomach, haha, but the harbour is very nice, with colourful fishing boats... I did not take my camera on the first walk ...

... when protected, and how absent they were everywhere else. Got a great couple of days of sunshine before we left the island. Decided to go south back to Rio and make a flight for once, rather than excessive travel around the rest of the country in minimal time. The 60 hour bus trip has really put me off long bus journeys... I do not know whow we are going to get to Canada from Mexico, and back, on budget =( Stay tuned!! Tropical Island pix soon.

... future son-in-law of the captain and admiral, cut the well worn rope of Hout Bay and headed out into the wrong weather bound for the isolated island of St. Helena...it was that moment that the dream came alive! The fist leg was a bumpy and fast start to a journey fulfilled with memories that will last a life time. Tonight we will be going to a show which will include; traditional dancing, Candomble ritual - similar to someone being possesed, scary stuff.

... where I had to change for Sao Paulo. Not knowing I had to have a yellow fever jab, I had to blag my way through three medical controls, waving my SA vacination book, which the Bolivians had no idea what it was. Something to make Scott and Cleggy jelous, in Sao Paulo airport I saw Lance Armstrong. I had to take a second look, but it was definetly him, he was with lots of Brazilians with cycling gear. The flight was delayed and I had to get an hour bus the ...

Thousands of people crowded inside of a big rope that circled around a slowly moving truck with a makeshift stage on top where various bands and famous singers belted out the few popular songs all night long. Around all 3 trucks is one HUGE rope and within the rope are all the people who paid to buy a T-shirt that gives them the right to be within the rope confines and access to all 3 trucks. On the other side of the rope is what they call popcorn or rather everybody else spectating. One of ...
