Trip to the Cathedral and the Old Town

... have been gathering for centuries to visit the tomb of St James. The Cathedral itself was magnificent, and the surrounding buildings where also very impressive. Shopping in the narrow flag stoned streets was a delight. We stayed at were given refreshments in a former hospital dating from around 1513 which is a listed building and is now a first class hotel. It was all very grand.

We kept reminding ourselves that we were walking on top of a
building that has no beams or steal for support……and built sometime in the
middle ages. Yikes. Change in the weather.

We travelled through thick fog over and through the mountains on typically heroic Spanish roads. They cut through mountains and build viaducts over the valleys. We drove through and around weary looking Pilgrims to our campsite which was on the Camino de Santiago. It was closed. After some interesting encounters with some locals, one old man practically ran away when asked for directions, we found this camp site.

The centre ...

Free weekend in Santiago!

... dessert crepe, and then naturally, some more coffee.... As we were eating and drinking, there was a street jazz musician sitting in the square playing music. Otherwise, the plaza was completely quiet, there was a gentle breeze, a few puffy clouds in the sky, and a giant, beautiful church presiding over this square. At this moment, we realized... this was about as European Perfect as it gets.

We finally left the restaurant after about 3 hours and went window ...

Galicia, day 3!

... for dinner Spanish time, so we planned on just getting drinks. However, the place we sat at ended up giving us a plate with lots of pieces of boob cheese and 2 large empanadas, and another plate with 2 slices of cake, plus free drinks, so we ended up staying there for a while. Around 10:30, we met up with the other 3 girls and walked around for a while, looking for somewhere to have a bottle of wine and talk for a while. However, this turned out to be a much more complicated ...

My Santiago review (English version only)

... made me immediately decide to forget about the pit. I knew it was going to be very hard to get in and I really didn't feel like drowning while waiting for a possible wrist band. The concert would (officially) not start before 10pm, so "No Way, José" I thought.

I told my Bruce Buddies that with nice weather I wanted to be there early afternoon, they could drop me off if they didn't want to sit there all day, I could take a taxi, but I wanted to ...

Santiago de Compostela

... of Santiago de Compostela was a little disapointing. The camino purposefully goes through many small hamlets (i.e. populations under 50) so there are plenty of places to stop and rest for the night, or just get a bite to eat before continuing on. But it is mostly just beautiful farmland and countryside interspersed with forests (oak, evergreen, eucalyptus). The eucalyptus forests are particularly nice because of their sweet smell, a nice change ...

... where a massive castle lies, it was in contention to be one of the modern 7 wonders of the world. Then we went to Seville for a day which was pretty cool, it was a nice city with really good night life, so we ended up sleeping through our check out which the receptionist was fine with, and we headed out to Lisbon. So we caught the bus, as Spanish rail is quite poor, interms of speed and lack of connections. Once we arrived in ...

Hangin with Bing and Adam's flight home

... So relaxing and fun. Once again, I love the water. Then we went to the harbor, it was kinda a puny marina. But they had an awesome breakwall, so we walked out on that and enjoyed the awesome views of the ocean. When we were walking out there, there were about 25 different wild cats out on the breakwall. They were everywhere and making a lot of noise. One was missing an eye. Its always cats, cats! One had syphillis and smokes "hello....hello." We ...

... where we got another stamp, after a hard pull up one of the steepest parts, we decided that we would eventually hitch, but walked to the highest point, after stopping for a salad, monster omelette, beer and coke at Hospital. We walked on past the next village, and replied to Jerry's SMS to say we had no idea of our ETA Jerry let us know that he'd booked a 4-bed room in a private albergue for us, at 7 Euros each, so accommodation wasn't a worry. To get into the ...
