... Got back home in the evening and Stephen will come with the boys on the morning of the 14th. Nilda won't be coming as she fears it will be too cold in the mountains. Stephen friend kind of scared us all about the drop in temperature in the mountains. Boy, was he wrong! It was warmer than Cabo Frio with sun every day except one rain shower that lasted several ...

... of Ipanema and Copacabana being wide, white and stunning. We spent the following day on a massive city tour which took about 10 hours! It took that long to see everything but it was well worth it. Sadly it ...

Jardim Botanical was the highlight, 200 years of constructed nature. Relfections on nature vs. intention, ...

... a visit to the big concrete man (Jesus Cristo) on the hill for the sunset. The statue was amazing. Its just so big. Our piddly little pineapple, prawn, banana etc really have nothing on this. The view on the other hand is just spectacular. You really need to time your visit up the hill as the city can get quite a thick layer of smog over it. We scored an ok day but not the best (see photos). The next day we went on a Favela (slum) tour. ...

... welcoming and kind. the landscape is also magnificent with irrugular mountains arising from white sand beaches and azul waters. the other day we went up corcovado to the statue of christ the redeemer and the vista was breathtaking. this really is the most exquisite location for a city. ok, those are the good parts. the bad part is the crime. it is prevalent, mostly pick-pocketing and robbery. we have been lucky but the 2 ...
