Leaving Lisbon our first stop is called Obidos about 90 kilometres to the north. It's a medieval town on a hilltop surrounded by a fortified wall. The houses are whitewashed, the streets are cobblestoned, winding and narrow. There seem to be more churches and chapels than houses and a lot of the laneways are decorated with bougainvileas to add lots of colour against the white walls. On our way back from the bus stop to the hostel we detoured along the path beside the river, as Imogen said 'quite nice in terms of Coimbra'. It is a nice city, just not one to spend so long to visit, we were expecting much more after the recommendations we had received.

This evening we relaxed and prepared for each of our trips onwards as tomorrow we would be going our separate ways.
