Admittedly it was the first time I had really been on my own since I arrived in Brazil, so I felt a little off. The hostel for the first night was Che Lagarto which is in a great location but just felt a bit sterile to me after the homeliness of Discovery. I did meet some people there but knew they were just to bide the time with rather than become buddies with (except for Blanda from Brazil who was lovely!)
... I guess that's the idea all the tourists had! We had organised Joseph the hostel owner to cook us Feshuada, $10 Reais a head for a local spin on the national dish. It was amazing, slow cooked beef & beans in a stew, topped with fresh beet root & cucumber. Not something id usually enjoy or choose but we'd worked up an appetite throughout the day and it was delicious! Watched Scarface & had a blaze with some chiller Argentinian girls after dinner. We arrived at rio airport at 7.30am rio time! Collected our bags and hoped that there was a dude with our name waiting for us! There was a dude with 'Ilha Grande. Genes ' written in some paper but no one else. After a quick look around we went up to him and said 'James??' In an inquisitive way. He responded with a 'si si' so we went along with it! We headed into rio catching a glimpse of big Jesus now and then ...
... br> I said cheerio to Vila Casanova and got a transfer to Ilha Grande with green toad bus..... thanks for recommendation Becky! I got picked up at the door at 11am in a smooth friendly transfer to the island. The alternative was a 4am start with taxi, public bus and long ferry journey.
