... found the best beach. So I went for a walk for about 10 minutes around the corner and I found the beach that I had read about. It had red cliffs and trees on top. There was no one sitting there and the sea was much nicer and not seaweedy. People were paragliding off the cliffs. The waves were breaking quite big right on the sand so it was tricky to actually swim. But I just relaxed got a bit splashed by the waves and then I started to walk back towards the ...

... entourage at the pool and bar area (we had to google him to understand the significance and comprehend his excitement). We didn't have to google Neymar and Messi, the soccer players, we were also hanging out in Trancoso during the holidays. On the first day we visited Espelho Beach, about an hour taxi ride south of Trancoso on sandy rutted roads lined with trees, vegetation, water buffalo (think fresh buffalo mozzarela) and cattle. After lunch I went to go for a nice swim in the clear ocean. The water was extremely warm! I have never felt anything better. I was exactly like taking a bath. I've started to realize a lot of things are not well paved here in Brazil, or ...

... The quaint little houses are each painted a different colour. According to the guide James and I hired this is how they used to distinguish addresses. Seems remarkably short sighted to me and I note they've succumbed to a more orthodox system of numbers. In the town square is a giant Brazil nut tree. I don't know if it was nearly as big in the 16th centuary but nevertheless it inspired the Portuguese to name their new territory... BRAZIL!

      A bit of beach time

We'd made the decision when planning the trip, based on the tickets we had and rough route we were taking, to break up the 30+ hour trip up the coast with a coupe of days in a much cheaper beach town. Arrial D'Ajuda is an area not far from Porto Segura, where we bussed in and out of, connected by a barge/ ferry. After stretching our legs post 19 hour bus ride we jumped in a taxi to the port, bought our tickets and scrambled onto the back of the ferry (more a skiff with a tug) ...
