      ... buildings with many churches scattered throughout.   On route we stopped in the city of Congonhas to visit Basilica do Bom Jesus de Matosinhos.  The church has each of the 12 Old Testament prophets carved at the front.  These were carved by Antonio Francisco Lisboa, also known as Apeijadinno or Little Cripple, who lost the use of his fingers and thus strapped chisels and hammers to his arms so he could create these pieces.  Below ...

      Between 8 and 10 thousand people watched the spectacle of the Passion of Christ in the Largo do Rosario, by our apartment... a tradition here in Ouro Preto for well over 200 years...

      ... in the mountains, and the streets sharp run up and down. There is an old university here, so many young people live in the town. Today the carnaval is starting, and everywhere you can see various decorations.
