... quite vicious especially during the summer. I was scratching for days. The beach apart from the mosquitoes were amazing. I met a lovely couple from São Paulo and we tried to speak Spanish to each other. We shared a litre of brahma and so calamari. After lunch we arrived back at the Jeep and headed for a walk to see a local waterfall. After that we had some spare time to catch some waves and then caught a speedboat back to the west side ...
Got an early start, as tropical rains & sunsets are coming earlier now, on the hunt for a better place to stay – no breakfast (café do manhana) here, but at least there was decent coffee & wifi. Seems the island, Ilha Bela, was still over 90% full, and with no tourist info open (not by 10am) and nicer places in the old town either overpriced or unsure, gave up hope and risked another night here.

... it, for a major port city, is scenically set against massive rock outcrops, trisected by equally massive rivers – they didn't look that clean, but that didn’t deter the local kids.

Upon arrival we immediately hit the water, but we had options, we could either jump in the pool or the ocean. We of course chose both during our stay. The week consisted of lots of games and swimming and my personal favorite paddle ball in the pool.

Despite all of these mildly amusing situations (particularly for my housemate), the real drama began when we arrived back on Saturday night. The journey had taken just over 6 hours in total so we were really looking forward to our beds. However I walked into our room and the first thing I noticed were mice droppings on my BED. Needless to say a thorough hunt of the house followed to investigate where the mice had been. ...
